720pn for big screen

hi all, been reading these forums alot and either missed an old thread on this or whatever...

I shot two shorts this summer, both at 720pn and both with basically the same lighting kit, very minimal, and am concerned about the grain in my darker regions when i get it onto a big screen.

as we watch it the grain looks okay, I was not able to get my light levels as high as I would have liked but on many different sized monitors and screens the grain remains the same, not too bad.....will this change alot when it gets projected?

are there typical steps for prepareing this sort of footage before it goes to projection?

I work in fcp 6 but am not expert in any way, and certainly not in color or cinema tools.

the output codec i have used so far is the preset for the HVX dvcpro hd 720/60p is that correct, i have been told to use apple pro res but tried that and didn't see any noticeable difference, slightly larger file?

thanks for any help

If you're worried about grain, then you might want to check out the NeatVideo plug-in ( www.neatvideo.com ), as it can do wonders at eliminating grain while keeping the integrity of the original video.

Sam, take what TheDingo said into consideration... I use Neat Video all of the time and I tell you...nothing beats it. You will not loose detail when using it.. It is sort of like a miracle worker. You can fine tune it to fit your project perfectly. The end result is absolutely amazing. One issue though....it takes forever to render. But, there is always a price to pay for quality.

BTW...IN FCP 6.06 sequence settings, 720/60P is the only preset offerred. In your Easy Setup you can choose all formats (or to minimize your options choose HD setups) and you will find 720/24p. You can be sure your frame rate is set to 23.98 (23.976). Dan.
