Hi All:

Quick question. Can I mix HD & SD on the same timeline, or do I have to perform them on separate sequences?

The reason I ask this question is that there are times (like long weddings) where I want just the important parts of the wedding (Processional, vows, kiss, segments of other parts) in HD shooting to my P2 card, while other parts of the wedding in 16x9 24PA SD.

Is there a simple way to do this?

thanks in advanc e,

eric

Yes you can do it but you will have to render the footage that is not the same as your sequence settings.

Yup, I've used Edius to edit a project containing a mix of three DVCProHD and three DV25 video tracks (plus a WAV audio track) without converting anything. It did transitions and color correction in realtime, even when it was in multicam mode where you can see and select the material from up to nine cameras at the same time.

In Vegas or EDIUS you can do this all day long. Don't know about other editors.

Yes! I guess I should have been more specific that in FCP you cant do it without having to render. I am hoping that in the FCP6 the multi format timeline will be added.

I have FCP5. Looks like I'll have to render until the fix. Thanks all.

Barry. How is Carolina?

take care,

eric
