720PA to Firestore control problem

Had my Firestore (3.0) not allow the camera to control it while in this mode. Switched to 1080i 24PN and everyting worked out fine. Has anybody elese experienced anything like this? Or any other issues with the 3.0 firmware upgrade?

I spoke w/ Focus Enhancements yesterday and they said there were some corrupted ver. 3.0 discs that came from the dubbing house - when the firmware was "just" released. If you received your disc early, this may be the problem. The tech said that there were some files that "didn't make it on the disc" . . . Call them, and they will send you a new disc.

I wonder how we are supposed to know what files are meant to be on the disk and whether they are corrupted or otherwise?

I wouldnt wqnt to find out in the field or after the event.

Maybe Focus Enhancements should contact those of us that purchased the 3.0 Software

Since the 3.0 firmware can only be obtained on CD directly from Focus, they really ought to know who has this supposed "corrupted" firmware and notify their customers and send replacements ASAP.

I have no doubt they'll replace the disks that are bad, but if Focus knows that all CDs from a certain batch are bad, they should be proactive about it and notify their customers and immediately send replacements rather than letting their customers spend valuable time trying to figure this out and possibly miss shoots / deadlines.

Apple doesn't do it, Adobe doesn't do it, Microsoft doesn't do it...

In a perfect world, everything would be, well, perfect...

I know it's not a perfect world, but if I buy a product directly from a vendor, that product has a known defect, and the vendor knows how to get in touch with me, I would expect the vendor to make an effort to get me a replacement without having to ask for it. That is the difference between caring about your customers and being indifferent. The fact that other companies handle this situation just as poorly is really no excuse.

The V3.0 firmware was released February 1, 2007 if I recall correctly and this problem affected early versions of the CDs, so Focus had four or five weeks to do something about it.

In actual fact they usually provide a download site to sort out patches or fixes.

I agree with Thoff. They could have at least notified of the possibilty of bad disks/files and not let the end user stumble into a potential disaster.

How does the FS-100 update allow you to switch to 1080i 24PN when the camera doesn't even have that mode?

I emailed tech support at Focus & sent them a link to this thread, they called me within an hour (did not ask for a call) and immediatly set me up with a download. They want to keep everyone happy and I appreciated the quick response.

It doesn't. The FS-100 only does Native modes the HVX does itself. There are no 1080 Native modes on either.
