Hi there,

Going to be shooting a series of 12 TVC's on an HVX202 (PAL) for final,
delivery of WideScreen Standard Def, i want it to still have a cinematic
feeling (lots of different frame rates), Probably cut it on Premiere

What is the best way to downconvert to 576i ?
Will my shots still look filmic ?

In New Zealand we have to deviler TVCs to the networks on DIGIBeta,

Would it be worth hiring a deck and dubbing it myself rather than bouncing
to miniDV and getting a post house to Dub it?

If so how do you interface with a digibeta deck, firewire ? or component from the HVX?

Any other suggestions would be greatly apperciated

Cheers

You could make DVCPRO50 QuickTime files, to then be dubbed to tape. This seems to be offered more and more from my experiences.

Dubbing all the HD footage w/frame rates is really easy "in-camera"; dubbing to miniDV. The footage looks excellent.

Wow - a lot of questions! Are you getting paid for these TVCs?

Anyway:

Format for shooting different frame rates (720pn?)

What / how are you going to edit on? (NLE?)

Suggest : Scale your 720pn down in the SD timeline (or an AEFX Comp) and you will have a letterboxed image on SD

Will your shots "look filmic" - thats up to you.

You do not have to deliver to NZ networks on DigiBeta

I suggest you use a post house to Master and provide delivery dubbs to Broadcaster. (There is more than one effective workflow to achieve this - eg EBUS)

Thanks Shooter,

so i should shoot 720/25pn (can i still use 50p at this rate?)

What options are avilable for TVC delivery on TV Networks?

Finally in what format do you delivery to the post house ?

Thanks

I cant' answer on the region specific questions, but if you edit on a 720 timeline you should be fine.

I usually go uncompressed letterbox before dubbing to digi directly from the DVCPRO HD source.

Final CC in SD, could be a quick hint...

From 1st jan 08, we have to deliver SD anamorphic here... -;)

Lose a bit less rez that way...

AND:
Stay away from DV, it's evil to your 4:2:2 stuff...
(even though I know it most likely is aired as 4:2:0 mpeg2s... But them hardware encoders at the stations are pretty bad)

720/25pn - permits the variable frame rates you wanted.

Options avilable for TVC delivery on TV Networks? - A post house is best to advise (they have a list) but EBUS delivers mpeg2 (to a specification) to all the main networks. Most TVCs are encoded to mpeg2 for broadcast whatever you deliver on. Its going to be a file based TV/broadcast world (tapeless) very soon.

Some stations still take DigiBeta and some require BetaSP. You have to ask them.

Finally in what format do you delivery to the post house ? mini DV and mpeg2 (files)
