720p out of RCA

This is probably a stupid question, but I've looked through the manual and searched the forums and can't seem to find an answer. I know I must be overlooking it.

When playing 720P footage from the RCA outputs to a standard television, how do you set the HVX to display the footage as widescreen with bars as opposed to a cropped 4:3
image?

I'd love to know too

Been trying to figure this one out myself as well. As far as I could find the setting isn't offered in the camera. There should be some kind of video out format option (Squeeze, Letterbox, etc., ala the Sony Z1U). However, I couldn't find any such option. I end up cycling it through our AJ-1200, but not really a pratical solution for an average user I would think.

cheers.

My HVX doesnt crop the 4:3, it squeezes it when i play back HD footage through the RCA cable onto a standard TV.

Are you sure its squeezed and not cropped?

It doesn't look squeezed but it's hard to tell because the shot I'm viewing is a CU of a campfire. I'll go back and check.

Even if it is squeezed, is there not a way to switch it to letterbox for displaying on a standard TV? It sure seems like that should be an option.

There is no aspect ratio conversion in it. HD is always 16:9, and the HVX always downsamples it to standard-def 16x9. If you want to see it on a 4:3 monitor you'll either see it squeezed, or have to use a switchable 16:9/4:3 monitor.
