720p or 1080i with 24p 2:3 pulldown?

Hey Guys,

I'm curious as to which mode looks better when using the HVX200. If I use 1080/24p mode, the camera puts that over 60i. Is that the same thing that cameras like the Canon XL2 and DVX100 would do with miniDV? They did a 24p pulldown since miniDV records in 29.97i.

Would final cut or premiere pro remove the extra frames when imported to a project the way its done with the Canon and DVX?

I hope I explained this right .

Exactly.

Premiere Pro will, FCP won't. But if you use 1080/24pA, then they both will.

You can also manually extract 1080/24P pulldown in FCP by using Cinema Tools.

Use 1080/24pA instead of 1080/24P whenever you can, to make your editing easier.

Thanks Barry. What about resolution? Do most filmmakers use 720/24PN because they don't have enough memory cards?

I'm trying to decide which resolution to go with. I will have access to 1 32GB P2 Card, 1 16GB P2 Card, and about 4 8GB P2 Cards.

The additional recording time potential of 720/24pN proves irresistible to many. I shoot 1080/24pA whenever I can. It's higher res, with less compression. But it's only about 20% higher res, vs. taking up 2.5x as much space, so you have to determine for yourself if the space savings is worth the res and compression trade-off.
