720P Editing Question

Hello all, I am new to this forum and new to the HPX500. I am needing some help urgently, I edit with Adobe Premiere CS2 and I do from time to time produce TVCs which are standard definition. My first question is, for best results should I import footage as 720P into a 576I timeline, resize and edit? Or do I edit in 720P? If the answer is 720P how to I down covert to 576I for broadcast. I hope I am making sense.

Thanks, Jane

You can do either; whichever is going to work best for you during the edit. I guess if you never plan to do a 720p output then you should just edit in SD to start out with. This method will save you a lot of time if you downconvert as you import your footage.

If your footage is already 720p then I would think that it's easier for you to edit on a 720p timeline, that way you don't need to render all of your files while your editing. This will save you rendering time. Once you are done with your edit, then throw it into an SD timeline or just export an SD file out of your 720p timeline. This method might eat up more of your hard drive because your file sizes are bigger.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Semi agree with Kak. I just think compressor does a nicer down conversion than the other options, so Id edit HD output SD.

Premiere Pro CS2 will not work with the P2 footage natively; that functionality was added with PP 3.1.

However, you can use Raylight from DVFilm with PP CS2 for working with P2.

Thanks for input, so many questions. Ok is CS3 a stable upgrade? And how do you monitor your vision if you do everything inside the PC? I use Multibridge Pro and can see on a video monitor what my production will look like. Does CS3 upgrade Multibridge Pro to enable the native P2 footage to be viewed in realtime on a video monitor? Should I be now using Vista 64? This work flow looks great but not being able to monitor in realtime worries me. http://www.dvinfo.net/articles/p2misc/p2premierepro.php

Thanks for your help, Jane

I use Matrox Axio. It's a hardware based system that gives PPro a monitor out, real-time editing including effects like color correction, transitions, scaling, etc.

It's kind of expensive ($4500 U.S.) , but I can't imagine working without it.

I wish that the Multibridge could do that with MXF files, no sign of that being an upgrade soon. Does anyone know if there is a product similar to the Matrox MXO for the PC, that would make my work flow sooo much easier.

Jane

Hello Brad, I have upgraded to CS3 and it is worth the upgrade. I have tried to contact BMD directly and indirectly but I'm not having any luck, having my questions answered. It really does look like Axio is the best option for Windows and MXF files immediately.

Thanks, Jane
