720P 50 support for FCP petition

Yep, SPZ,
I did send feedback to apple.
And AFAIK dvcprohd1080i50 support has been in fcp quite some time.
Not 1080p25 though...

You can edit 1080p25. Just go to sequence settings and change field dominance to " no fields" and there you go. progressive 1080P editing.

If that is so (and I believe in what you are writing, why is there no green, blue, red, orange or whatever paper for PAL countries that describes all these little albeit simple tricks?
Why does Apple not publish something like that together with Panasonic?

You take our money, folks, but customer care seems to be a foreign language word for ya. I mean customer...care...

Pkraft, To do a simple progressive test, shoot something in a high shutter speed at 1080 25p. Then, in the FCP timeline, try seeing the movement you recorded frame by frame. If you don't see any "fields", or half frames, there you go- progressive!

I agree with you on the marketing and costumer care, tough. Being able to see what a fine job the US Panasonic department is doing in therms of comunication really makes one feel there's a lot to catch up from the rest of the worldwide Panasonic.

I can't complain about the Panasonic representatives from where I work, tough. The guys at Shun Hing (That's Panasonic Hong-Kong) where great and took almost a whole working day to show me what the HVX could and could not do. They had their General Manager and chief HK engineer to speak to me (Mr Philip Wu and Mr Marcus Lau) and that is really something you don't get every day.

But I'm also European, and being a DVX user (and a very happy one at that), I really felt disappointed in knowing the DVX was nowhere known in Portugal (and Spain- ok, a lot LESS known than XL1's and PD-150's). As I can see, Portugal is not included in the countries covered by Panasonic Europe- so probably I'm hitting the wrong guy, but the truth is, the dvx was and still is one of the best (if not the best) 1/3 ccd's sd camcorders out there. So what other reasons can one find to justify its limited penetration on the European market? That's a point for analysis.

That's also the beauty of a global capitalyst market. You have to keep up not only with the fellow next door, but with the more developed fellow in the other side of the globe. Just look. There was a Panasonic Europe representative over here a few days ago- doesn't this tell you something? Things are changing, for the good.

EDIT- But they need to know that we know others are doing a better job. :)

Now give us that 720p 50 support!!

It's not Panasonic who are not giving us 720 P50 support. On the contrary. Its Apple and FCP who need to get their act together.
I wrote in and told them did they think we were like second class citizens, that we paid as much for their products as Americans, that PAL users were not some tiny minority that had to be pandered to. Apple are really too US centric. It's crazy. So come on keep sending in those petitions :furious3:

Here I say the same thing, I want Apple to bring us PAL users the sweet, but hey Panasonic! Give us the P2 viewer for mac! How can you bring that important software piece out as ' PC only ' ?

( both Apple and Panasonic need to share some information here)

I think I heard Jan talking about it a while ago- she said for Mac users to "Wait for NAB" or something... Or maybe I just interpreted it wrong...

There's not point in getting too irate with Apple with your feedback. What they need to see is a high number of people feeding back that they would like this feature. Being angry doesn't count as two votes. In fact, if they see this as some sort of nutty campaign, they may think it's just 100 or so people making a lot of noise, instead of those 100 representing a few thousand more who don't know about this feedback mechanism.

Currently 253 people have taken advantage of a free battery and camera case from Panasonic. If we imagine that they represent 80% of people who have bought the camera in the valid countries, and that the valid countries represent half the number of PAL shipments, then Apple could estimate that there are 650 or so PAL owners out there. Not that many compared with all the JVC owners out there...

What we need is considered feedback from people with connections: "I work for a TV station/production company who are very interested in switching over to Final Cut Pro. We have a couple of installations that we're very happy with. We're also branching out into a wide range of HD production and currently favour that HVX200. We'd be most interested in seeing a version of FCP that supports the features of this camera."

Logically, Apple knows that all the people who have this camera and FCP would want them to work together. Unfortunately, we have to make them see its worth their while.

Whether it is fair or not is nothing to do with it.

My point is that 720p 50 should not be considered as a "feature". It's a basic part of the software that has been forgotten/ignored for PAL users.
NTSC users have a choice between DVCPro HD 720p30, DVCPro HD 720p24 or DVCPro HD 720p60 in Final Cut Pro yet not one 720 p choice is available for PAL.
What were Apple thinking when they decided that. Oh that's just PAL. That's not important!
Also, HDV 720p30 is available but no HDV 720p50 or 25 and you can't say that's because of the small number of PAL HDV cameras being sold.

No, its just that second class citizen feeling I don't like. If they don't care about PAL users they shouldn't sell their software here. So I think we are entitled to be angry.

I agree with you (I also live in PAL land) but don´t forget: not even AVID supports 720 50p yet and they are the leading company for NLE´s ( at least in my oppinion). I assume they will bring it at NAB so will Apple do - so maybe we should show a little bit patience - it´s just about 2 weeks to NAB.
Beyond that, I don´t believe that Apple will care about e-mails from their customers - Apple do what Apple is willing to do and europe is far away from Cuppertino :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) .

Otherwise we could also discuss the question, why we have to pay basically more for Apple products here in Europe than it wolud be after Euro/$ translation + VAT although Apple produces in Irland (so there should be no import tax to add). It seems to be a tradition for american companies (Adobe the same) to think Euro/Dollar is 1:1 but there is nothing we can do but to avoid their products. Are there any alternatives ? I think no and so there is nothing we can do. PAL is not only europe but australia to and I am really sure they work on it. It´s just a matter of time.

I agree completely. The more "professional"one sounds on the feedback (and big time :) ), the better. They want good buzz on the business. And if people from the industry demand it, they'll do it.

Gentlemen, its about two more weeks till NAB and the expected FCP 6 announcement. We need to have support for 720p 50 in Pal. Here's a plea from a fellow HVX user to keep sending feedback in order to have our hopes fulfilled. Our Macs work great with dvcprohd, and its like a second home for the HVX- we need it to be THE HOME of our HVX. Apple, you support natively the HVX ntsc in all its formats... Please don't forget the millions of PAL costumers!!!

Don't forget to sound professional and "businesslike". That's what they want to see. Potential big time producers looking to use their system- and good word of mouth :)

MiniDV-PAL has been around only 11 years and still FCP does not have 4:2:0 Color Smoothing. I hope 720p50 does not take a decade to be suppoerted...

Done that.
Man that was a dissapointment when I finally received the camera and the cards.
Has anybody found an alternative way? Or do we really have to wait for an update?

IF Apple does not announce DVCPRO HD 50p support by NAB, I'm taking my business (however small that might be to Apple) to Canopus. Its no use complaining, hit them where it hurts!
