720 footage transcodes not 1080

I have FCP 6.06 and an Intel mac . I can log and transfer the footage in 720 great. But when i try to play the 1080 footage it won't play on the time line all I see is a grey box and I can hear the audio. Any reason for this? I am transcoding to Pro Res.

Yes I can play the Transcoded file from the good computer in the bad computer in finder and FCP. But transcoding the footage on the "bad" computer doesnt work.

Its totally screwed, doesnt make any sense. Im going to try a new install of FCP and barring that, I will do a complete operating install.
