720 60p to any other format issues

Hi all

I have read the sticky, but there are for mac and I need PC solution.

When converting MTS 1024 using TMPGEnc or VoltaicHD, things are working good.

When converting 720 (60P - NTSC) the movies are not good, looks like the movie is speed up? or somthing, its playing till the end very fast, like 1/3 of the original length, and the sound is keep on going like the original.

Tried every configuration of VoltaicHD, and many configurations of TMPGEnc with no success..

After installing the Hack and moving to PAL, both TMPGEnc and VoltaicHD are working great.

But I have some 720 stuff 60P, what are my options?

Thanks,

Ady.

What is your target format?
What are you using to play the converted videos?

fwiw, I've used Handbrake (0.9.4) to convert several GH1 720p60 videos to lower-bitrate MPEG-4 for playback on small laptops (2Ghz Pentium M, integrated video). The converted video is still 720p60, just higher compression. Plays back fine in VLC (1.0.5), but not in QuickTime Player (7.6.5).

If you want your final output to be H.264, here is a list of programs that use the excellent x264 encoder library:

thanks

I am trying to get any other format from MTS, that can be edited.... every format I chose have this problem.

Even AVID 5 that can convert mts now, confuse with this 60P.

I will check HadBrake and update results, thanks.

I do my editing in Final Cut on the Mac, which has no problem importing AVCHD 720p60 directly. I know, I know that doesn't help you on Windows... :)

Which NLEs have you tried on Windows so far?

Regardless, yeah, you could use Handbrake to transcode to 720p30 H264 which should work. Or try 720p30 MPG4 which might be more compatible with more editors. Or even 720p60 MPG4 and see if that works, long shot but doesn't hurt to try.

fyi, I did some more Handbrake encodes today. Dropped to 1024x576 @ 29.97fps since any more resolution is wasted on our DVD players, XGA laptops, XGA projectors, iPad, and iPhones/iPods.

All encodes with "Normal" preset; only set Anamorphic:None (on the Picture tab) so I could drop the resolution, and Framerate:29.97 (on the Video tab).

With the lower resolution & framerate, the H264 transcoded video plays fine in VLC on a 2Ghz Pentium M. I think VLC is fine with any resolution of H264, it just depends on whether your computer can keep up. I mostly use ultraportable laptops, so they aren't the speediest. :)

With the lower resolution, the MPG4 transcoded video plays in QuickTime Player. It still chokes on H264 though.

Example test file:
AVCHD 1280x720 60fps - 100 MB

Transcoded files with default Handbrake settings:
H264 1280x720 60fps - 44.3 MB
MPG4 1280x720 60fps - 18.9 MB
H264 1024x576 30fps - 21.8 MB
MPG4 1024x576 30fps - 9.1 MB

I was surprised that H264 bitrate is twice the MPG4 bitrate with default settings. Of course it has a quality edge at these rates. Will have to play with the MPG4 quality settings to match bitrates and than compare again.

I've converted AVCHD 720p 59.94fps videos to Motion JPEG 720p 29.97fps with Adobe After Effects. It's a very slow overnight process, but the results have been excellent with JPEG quality level set to 75%. The crucial point is to enable the Motion Blur filter but disable the Frame Averaging filter. Motion Blur will give you a smoother flow between frames, while Frame Averaging will produce ghost images on the edges of moving subjects.

Thanks but I have lot of stuff, and I paid for VoltaicHD and I am waiting for them to solve the problem.
