720 60p Render In Vegas For Vimeo

So If I film in 720 60p, put it in a 720 60p track should I render it as a 720 60p or as 720 30p? All I have is the 500mb a week upload limit and my videos will be in 3-4 min lengths. Or should I be filming in 720 30p? I understand that 720 60p is much smoother when slowed down but what other benifits does it have over 720 30p? Is there really a huge difference? Which should I film in since I will be uploading to Vimeo and Youtube? I use an HMC150 and edit in vegas pro 8

Film in 60p, but export to 30p. If you're not slowing it down, you just have extra frames, but at least they'll be there if you want to slow it down.

edit: If you follow my suggestion, though, make sure to "Disable Resample" on all the 60p clips on your timeline, or else Vegas will go stupid dummy retarded when it exports the 30p file, though. Not a clue why "Smart Resample" isn't smart enough to simply drop every other frame, but it isn't.

But put it in a 60p timeline? If I want to slow it down how do I do that without putting it in a 30P timeline, the same way I would with normal footage? Like say I only want to slow down part of one clip.

No, put it in a 30p timeline. If you only want to slow down part of a clip, split the clip, and CTRL-drag the end of the segment until the audio track says "50%," or whatever speed you want it played at.

Where does the 50% or whatever pop up? I thought when you add 60p to a 30p timeline it automatically gets slowed down

If you put a 60p clip into a 30p timeline, it will play at 30 frames per second; every other frame is discarded. It's not going to play in slow-mo unless you make it do so.

edit: Let me phrase it this way: One second is one second. Putting a 60p clip onto a 30p timeline doesn't make one second into two seconds.

There we go thanks for dumming it down. So it wont be choppy or look stupid? If I do slow the 60p down it would be smoother than the 30p if it was slowed down right?

Seems like it could be clearer, it looks a lil foggy but that is because of the camera settings right?

Edit: What was it filmed on?

Now, hold on.

There's a significant, stark difference in the motion characteristics of 30p and 60p. You should only convert to 30p if you want the less-"live" motion characteristics of 30p. 60p is far more fluid and immediate-looking, and it's precisely because objects move twice as many times per second as they do in 30p. They are not the same thing, not by any means. A second may be a second, but the number of frames per second absolutely makes a difference.

Test it both ways and see which one you think is more appropriate for your project.

I realize that. What I meant is that one second long 60p clip is going to be one second long when you drop it onto a 30p timeline in Vegas.

Also, if you uploaded a 60p file to Vimeo, it would get converted to 30p anyway, right?

Don't know the upload requirements. The point is, though, they're not the same thing, and you can't just substitute one for the other. Well, you can, but it might not be what you actually want.

And, 60p will always give you better slo-mo, because from frame to frame, there's less difference -- objects don't move as far -- so if there's more time between switching from frame to frame, the less objects appear to "jump." This is why it's hard to get smooth slo-mo from 24p. 30p doesn't have much more to offer over 24p in that regard.
