The title says it all. I am shooting something in june for BET TV in the US and they want HD. They will make a down convert to SD also but I am checking here to make sure that the native mode will still work for broadcast? Anyone, anyone?

Shouldn't be a problem, you will probably have to add a pull down in post - in order to make it 24p fps over 60i (29.97fps). Non-native framerates are automatically 'over 60' and might be better suited, except that you have less space on a P2 card.

Just make sure that BET is okay with 1280x720 24p (over 60). Some stations have strict guidelines as to what formats they accept, and some want that newsie/realty 60i look.

Are you doing the post? If so, edit in 23.98, then downconvert and output to SD via Kona or something like that.

If you're just delivering unedited footage check with BET.

I've done a bunch of work for Viacom (MTV, BET and VH1) and most recently, American Gangster for BET. We shot that on an SDX 900 at 720p / 59.94. The camera was scanning at 24fps but laying down to 60p.

Othertimes I've shot on DVX's at 24PA and just handed off tapes. Producer went with an out of house post company and they did the 29.97 pull down.

I still find it unbelievable the Viacom still broadcast SD and wants SD deliverables. Everytime I do a music video for a major label, they're still asking for Dbeta deliverable (which means so is BET, MTV and VH1).

Good luck.

Thanks guys. No I am not doing any post. I am just handing off footage, which will be coming off of a firestore. How about if I shoot 720/30pn? The local producer, who does not know anything has left it up to me as to what I shoot in. I asked him what the end product had to be ie; did they want this thing shot on digibeta or something else. It is going to be a two cam shoot, and it is long, approximately three hours. To long for P2 and I wouldn't have the time to offload footage anyway. So I am going with the firstore. The local producer is doing post and doing the final deliverables to BET.

Its a gospel singer from the US coming here to Montreal.
