So I have been shooting in 720PN up until now.

I have to mix footage with 30fps so I am going to shoot in 720 24P but was surprised that it only gave me 8min. for an 8 gig card. Than I was even more confused that the 1080i 24P was the same amount of minutes/storage.

Just wondering should I just shoot in 1080i 24P..... more importantly does FCP support it?

Thanks guys have to shoot tomorrow so I appreciate fedback.

FCP5.1 supports 1080/24pA mode. If you have 5.1, you can use 1080/24pA, but if you don't have 5.1, you may not want to use 1080/24P modes just yet.

Quick question Barry.
Which of the two 1080 24 modes is geared for a 30fps timeline.

Thanks Barry!

Why is it that 720 24p and 1080 are the same storage size on the 8 gig.... or am I wacked out?

You are not wacked out.

(well, I mean, you may be, but not related to this!) :)

720/24p is recorded in the "over 60" mode, meaning 60 frames per second are actually being recorded. It's not the ideal mode for recording on the cards; normally you'd use 720/24pN mode to record on the cards. 720/24p is more suitable for firewire streaming (to the firestore, or to a computer, or to a tape deck). For recording on the cards you'd be better off with 24pN, which will give you 2.5 times as much recording time.

Thats the wacked out part, I need 30..... yuck :)
My client needs to mix in footage shot in 30fps. I normally shoot in 24pn, so when I switched over to 24p..... well I was not to happy.

So with that in mind im stuck in the sad sad world of 30fps timelines. How is the 1080 24p treated as far as timeline goes.

I figure if its the same storage limit why not go higher to 1080 24p. Of course I would now need the FCP 5.1 upgrade.

Thanks again Barry.
