720 24p footage to SD

Most NLE's will be able render out all forms of DV AVI formats using various codecs. Just use the export function or in Vegas its "render as". There's no special formula for doing this,,, its a simple process.

True that a lot of software can convert 720 24p but not all can give the superior quality the op is asking. I would recommend Procoder 3 or use virtual dub.

I just went through this converting mts 720 60P files to SD DV Codec AVI (or MOV) for an editor that is editing in SD for youtube. I found Procoder 3 to be the easiest to use.

TMPGenc was a pain as I still have not figured out how to get it to output as a 16:9 SD clip. I kept getting letterboxed 4:3. (I'm sur eI must be missing something, it's generally a great program).

Actually Adobe Media Encoder would probably be the easiest to use with lots of conversion/codec options. I say "would be" if the damn software didn't make my computer reboot 10 seconds into a transcode!

If you use Procoder 3 and are converting multiple clips don't use the wizard tool. Use the regular encoder. (My moronic self didn't notice there were 2 different icons on the desktop and it took me half a day to notice the difference. lol)

Of course that's all for PC.

the easiest way for me is just throw on whatever dvd burner software you using and click on burn.... I did it in imovie and encore cs3

I'm trying to use Procoder 3 to convert 720/50p files to DV AVI, and I'm experiencing the exact same problem as this guy:

He gets pretty angry by the end of the thread (a year after he started it)! Seems others are having the same problem too, without any solution. The colours get completely screwed up, not just in a conversion to DV AVI but to any format from AVCHD m2ts files. Do you not have this problem Denwa?

Meant to also say, I've tried AVS convertor like the chap suggested and I'm very impressed, I'd recommend anyone give it a go for AVCHD -> pretty much anything. I'm using it to go to DV AVI.

No, I have not had any color issues. What DV codec are you using?

? how would i be wrong. Just export the same frame rate but a different frame size. THey're two independent things.

I know, thats not quite what i meant.

In Standard definition, most people don't expect to get 34p, instead they want 60i or 50i.

You mean 30P.

And technically 30P is delivered over 60i in SD unless it's say a DVD player that has progressive output capabilities and a Progessive capable TV.

I do all my SD output as 30P. (or 24p over the same).

I'm in PAL land and export my final cuts in DV-AVI at 50i .

I then just feed this into Adobe Encore and it does it's magic, not sure what it does but i get a good picture and thats all that matters.

OOhhh.... Right. Yeah I would just use compressor then and see what comes out but probably nothing you can do will make it exactly perfect.
