7000mah battery for HMC150!!!

it says it works with both hpx/hmc cameras, which i don't understand how thats possible? it mentions "an adapter to work with panasonic camcorders". so does that mean that there's an adapter out there that will convert hvx/dvx/hpx style batteries to fit the hmc150? that would be very interesting if so.

HMC and HPX uses the same battery.

7000mah is quite a bit more power than the panasonic ones and at the same price point as well!

How is this possible? I though the 170 and 150 used DIFFERENT batteries?

Battery is battery, it could just be a physical connector design change that's preventing the hvx/dvx/hpx batteries being used on the HMC. sure, there might be some communication logic between the camera and battery, but as a power source, these batteries should be interchangable.. It's possible with this 7000mah battery, we might loose some benefits such as accurate remaining charge indication.

you have listed on your site the larger panasonic 5800mA battery that most of us already have. what we're talking about is a 7000mA battery thats advertised on B&H.

I use to have a JVC battery with an adapter plate that worked on Canon cameras. I'm guessing this is the same thing.

Either way it's not in stock.

Actually the 170 uses same batteries as 150. The DVX works with the HVX batteries and pretty much the new panny batteries have the smart data. Funny enough.. my SD9 camcorder batteries also work with the 150.. and the charger charges both SD9 and the big HMC batteries... So in a pinch.. you can pick them up at bestbuy and other local places. The SD9 batteries last about 50 minues.. so enough to fill up an 8 gig card.

This looks like a great option. With two of these, plus the 6 other batteries would probably cover 3 days of shooting....

I always get nervous about not using OEM batteries. They (in my experience) never seem to hold up. A 7,000mah battery from a non OEM could have the same real life usability as a Panasonic OEM 5,800mah.

I'll stick with Panasonic.

Similarly the SD100. The battery that comes with the 151 lasts for 4 hours on the SD100!

so the hvx200 and hpx170 batteries work on the 150?

I see some people saying yes and some no?

final answer? :)

THE HVX200 batteries will NOT work on the HMC150.

I have about 15 HVX200 batteries that I no longer have use for due to this.
The mounting point and contacts do NOT line up.

While I would love this battery to work, I am going to venture a guess that it doesn't. My PV-GS300 batteries work with the HMC's charger (and vice versa), but the batteries do not work on the HMC, despite that they fit on the camera just fine. The LCD display simply says "This battery will not work", or something to that effect. I know that this says the kit works for the HMC, and I have no doubt that the charger does (there are several chargers that do), but I have my doubts about the battery.

But I've been wrong before, and hope that I am now.....

booggerg2, you are right that chemically, they share the same or similar Li-Ion cells. As far as actually using a non HMC150 battery, other than having a slightly different mechanical interface, the HMC150 battery has a special chip in it. Unless the camera can talk to it first, and id the battery as its own, no go. As far as I know there is no 3d party battery available for the camera presently. May be what Series 7 battery adapter intends to do, is to fool the camera by pretending to be an AC adapter?

All I know is the 5D Mark 2 can work with 3rd party batteries. However, given that they don't have the properitary canon chip within them, the battery will not communicate with the camera, so the camera can not display battery level. However, these batteries work just fine as a power source for the 5D mark 2

Any news on this? I saw B&H had the adapter plate in stock that they claim is compatible with the HMC150. I'm in the market for a new battery or two and like the idea of a "universal" battery system.
