7-Second Pre-Record Feature (firmware update)?

[basspig]

I was browsing eBay when I found an ad for a PMW-EX1. The thing that caught my eye in the copy was the following:

"7 second pre-record capability coming soon from Sony firmware update"

Here's the listing where I read that:

So has anyone else heard this rumor? The seller is stating it like it's a de-facto fact of reality. True or false?

Apparently he claims it has CCDs as well.

Then consider he is trying to sell a used US$6100 camera with a $250 battery and $850 SxS (or SDHC?) card with an unknown bag for about US$8000+

I wouldn't put much faith in his claims, in fact you could report him to eBay for bogus product description...

He also claims it retails for around $12,000. I figured he means Canadian dollars.

I already sent him a question about the firmware 'feature'. 'Hasn't answered yet...

A brand new EX3 currently retail for $12K Canadian while a brand new EX1 is currently going for $8.5k Canadian. So i'd have conclude this "deal" is bogus. Happy Hunting!

What could the seller possibly be trying to accomplish by putting up this absurd auction? I never could figure out that mentality--it isn't cheap to list an item at the price he's listed it at!

[GuyB]

but he only needs one sucker to believe it and he makes a mint.

For just about anything else, I would agree, but EX users, or anyone seriously considering and EX is going to be a lot more careful about researching the options on a big ticket item like this. I'd be shocked if he found a buyer that didn't back out of the deal later.
