7-14 lens sold-out?

I got it from B&H and I have been in love with it ever since. I know that ebay has alot of them usually from Japan though. Try searching for it there. Make sure you get it from a 100% Feedback seller with more than 40+ Feedbacks. Goodluck.

I got both my 7-14mm and 20mm from eBay seller "2009madeinjapan" before they were even available in the U.S., and couldn't be happier with the seller. The items arrived VERY quickly from Japan over here to Houston, Texas!

Thx very much for the tip.
Looks like some six-string stuff is finally moving :-) so we should have some breathing space to grab the wideangle...

The lens is fricken' amazing to say the least (that is - if you like wideangles)...
Do I remember correctly - the GH1 does some kind of internal readjustment of vertical lines, etc?
Just popped off this one, with whatever setting I had at the moment. Focus is on the painting on the far wall... wow...

That is a fantastic view / shot. Just to be clear, m4/3 lens deliver the stated "aspect", correct? I.e. 7-14mm vs. 1.9x sensor adjustment ~ 13-28mm field of view. Thanks. Some threads I've seen seem to say the latter.

That is correct, yes. You go from the "normal" wideangle all the way down to panoramic stretch, keeping safely distant from the more radical fisheye effect (IMHO).
I might add that using the in-cam gridlines at this point is mandatory in order to minimize the typical vertical distortion...

thanks uncle. can anybody compare this lens to the olympus 9-18mm m4/3? i'm looking to pick up a wide angle and would like to save some money if possible. in particular, i've heard some non-panny lens i've read reviews on can not be controlled by the gh1.

Pricewise it is about $500 less expensive than the Pannie (I purch'd mine here:http://photography.shop.ebay.com/Le...2009madeinjapan&_ssov=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m282) and it will accept filters (not possible on the 7-14).

I have no idea if all the AF functions are compatible.

What is the consensus on older used lenses? Is image quality that much different than it was in the past? Obviously cameras have come a long ways, but would hurt my production if I invested in some well kept older lenses to go along with a GH 1? I'm am interested predominately in short films at the moment.

Thank you!!!

thanks uncle. $1K-- ouch... i hope this doesn't come out wrong, but is panny glass good quality? just trying to gauge how much i am willing to spend on this kit.

Video wise you won't get the best out of a newer expensive lens with all the bells and whistles vs older manual even cmount lenses. photography is another story.

I cant remember who but someone did a comparison with their cmount vs a zeiss/canon or something and in video the difference in IQ wasn't as great as one would expect.

i guage my decision to wanting this lens based on all the photographers who seem to love it and you know how critical they can be =)

I must point out that I *had* to purchase the 7-14 for my wideangle needs...there is no "old school" equivalent that would give me that kind of perspective / angle.
In the longer focals it's another ball game alltogether. I'm stoked by all the great footage that has been shot with the equivalent of "economical" still photo (35mm) lenses. That is the tipping point in favour of this camera IMHO.

I hear you :-/
What's interesting to me is that I seem to enjoy it more for stills than in filming. Maybe I just need to find the proper kind of theme / subject... but I seem to have the pancake on all the time. When I'll finally receive my Novoflex adapters I'll test out the much longer focals, and an inner voice seems to suggest that the wideangle will see less mileage than the other lenses. I'm really curious at this point ;-)

Is there a certain criteria that you all follow when choosing an older used lens? Is it in the name? In other words how do you determine which lenses are still productive even though they are old?

Well I guess that on one hand I'd still look at Ken Rockwell's reviews... For starters if a lens was poorly built from a mechanical standpoint, just avoid it, no?
On the other side if you look at some of the clips that have been posted, people are getting great results from "plain" lenses that in the 35mm film world really deserved little consideration.
A third alternative is to look for fast lenses for ambient lighting.
And in any case a lens would be "productive" if it meets *your* criteria...sharpness vs. softness, speed, ease of focus, filter size , etc (just the first things that come off the back of my mind).
