7.0 will not activate

I'm coming here in the hopes that this has happened to someone else and can tell me what in the world I should do.

In 2005 I bought the Adobe Production Studio Premium... The two pieces of software use frequently are Premiere 2.0 and 7.0.

Last week I had to format my hard drive, and reinstall all of my software. No big deal; I've done this several times. Only this time something new happened.

I only installed Premiere and After Effects... Premiere works, but when I went to launch AE it prompted me to activate the software. Again, no big deal; it's happened before. But this time it failed. I tried phone activation where you punch in your serials and authorization number in order to get a third number that would activate it...Didn't work. So, then I called an Adobe tech. After several times, he couldn't get the software to activate. He then transfers to someone he says will be able to help me. He sent me to a sales rep, who told me that I was sent to buy the upgrade. Couldn't do that at the moment, and the rep then told me I was "out of luck, and on my own." Also said that they don't provide tech support for versions that are two versions behind the current. But wouldn't the guy I talked to who was indeed tech support know this when I told him that I own version 7.0? The rep then hung up on me. Yes, hung up on me.\

So, here I am about to scream, because I use this for work. What do I do now? Please someone help!

On another note.... With all the software piracy going on you would think the Adobe staff would appreciate it when someone buys their software legally! I hope Adobe reads this! Anyway, anyone know what I should do?

I had this problem with Flash MX. I bought it... well whenever... computer on which it was properly installed died... couldn't get a new key a few months ago... same basic reason...

And yes, in the era of major concern over 'piracy', it would seem that making legitimate owners happy would be the watch word... as, if it so much of a hassle to move and transfer as one upgrades in hardware, either by choice of computer disaster... then why not go with the latest cracked version...

And of course this was obvious to me when they, especially Macromedia, began to do this give you a key to get a 'real' key nonsense.

As for 'adobe reading'... being someone who does have a 'better than average' relationship with some people at adobe... their attitude towards my 'plight', was, shrug, buy the new software...

I never understood why people in the biz using computers, which are out of date after a few years anyway expect they're 4 year old software to keep up with the times. Would you rather vote on 4 year old computers rather than up to date stuff? When VHS became obsolite did you transfer all your old clients to dvd? For year old software is generally obsolete. Microsoft isn't supporting XP anymore. Now you know. There isn't any tech-support for version 4 years old. If you make a living using these products then surely you got your moneys worth after four years.

BTW Do you tell your clients that your running software that is 5 years old? Would rather get a security system for house that uses 4-5 year ols software rather than newer stuff?

I mean yeah that does suck they were rude, but there does become a point when it costs to much to pay people to tech support old software instead of spending the money on making new and better things.

Think about it. Most hardware only has a year warrenty.

About internet piracy. Maybe download a crack for your version. You own it so it wouldn't be illegal.

Don't get mad just playing devils advocate.

Adobe has an INCREDIBLY annoying habit of blocking activation after a certain time. It happened to me with premiere AND AE CS2. It made me want to shoot something. You may be SOL on this one dude.

Adobe takes very extreme steps towards authenticating their software. So extreme in fact it hurts those that buy it legally. You might be stuck here.

I mean - you could work around the authentication process. But they don't allow discussion of that here for obvious reasons. If you conscious holds you back - you did purchase the software legally, just adobe won't let you activate it yourself.

Way too true. I finally got CS4 (courtesy of my school, as usual) and when I try to install it it thinks that I am trying to run it from a virtual drive. Adobe needs to become less greedy so those of us who have legit coppys dont get screwed.

When I do still film I never give my customers a 'full disclosure' that the camera and lenses are over 20 years old, in a couple of cases over 35 years old. If my Hasselblad breaks, I expect to be able to send it in and have it fixed by a Hasselblad authorized severs center if not Hasselblad itself... back when I was really active in that endeavor, I sent a 30 year old, at that time (so it would now be some 45 years old...) lens in for adjustment, it came back adjusted, not with some one on the phone, saying 'sorry, you need to by a $2K new lens... <click>".

Now, as it happens, Hasselblad has been bought by a chinese company, and so, who knows... perhaps I will get told I need to up grade to a Hasselblad digital for some measly sum of $6 or 7 K... Since I've gone digital I've not used the Hasselblad at all...

If a tool works for what I need done, then, and the company that made the tool is still in business, yeah, I expect support even if it is just as minimal as a 'new key'... not this is not a discussion about 'bug fixes', patches, or 'wyrd problems'... this is a about the key to enable the software.

As for 'computers'... I've had two FreeBSD machines running as my firewalls for some 10 years now... they work, they do their job, and when they die, sure, I'll replace them with whatever is the 'current' cheap computer... but the point is, I don't need to have 'the latest and greatest'...

In fact, I like to wip out my 4 year old iBook, and say, 'what you see on the screen is done with this, in the middle of the desert, plugged into a car cigarette lighter'... If you need the power... sure... but if it is not necessary... I don't see the need...

While the discussion at hand is indeed about enabling the software. We can't really talk about it without bringing up bug fixes, and patches. None of that will work.

The issue here is that Adobe has made it very hard for people to 'hack' their software. And this includes people who purchase their software. As they upgrade they stop offering support on older systems.

Tech and cameras are very different things. Whereas if you have an old Aaton go down, you can get it fixed. When a software package that out of date goes down, you might be out of luck. Especially if the package isn't authenticating.

And tech support can't do anything for you. Your serial number, that is specific to your machine is tagged on a larger server. On that server, if the key has been ruled invalid, or is already in use - which might be a possibility as well. Since thats what Keygens do when people crack these packages. A keycode is generated which will ideally lie in the system somewhere. Or the system won't have the keycode as registered already and will allow it to go through. Other gens are devised based on keycodes that are used for a general authentication. Others are used to trick the system into thinking it checked back at home.

So basically - what I am getting at, is your keycode is in use or has been invalidated and will not work again. You might have to bite the bullet and buy the software again. Or you can go through and crack the software platform into thinking it authenticated itself. Which is a whole different process which we cannot discuss here.

The company, as it sounded, tried to give you support. They just don't have the support to give. Like I said, upgrading might be the only way to go here.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't work indepently at the moment. I work for a company that pays me hourly to shoot/edit videos. So, i'm on a fixed budget.

If I have no other options; I guess I'll have to save $299 for the upgrade.

Thanks again for the input.
