6mm camcorder vs. digital Full HD ?

Hi all,

I am marrying soon and we went to a famous studio to ask for video and photo service.

The manager told me that the video would be shot with 6mm camcorder. I asked him what it meant 6mm camcorder . He explained that it was something similar with betacam . I asked him if it deliver Full HD or HD video . He said that either Full HD or HD was just a kind of "fake" , "trick" ... or something like that. He meant that the 6mm camcorder or betacam gave genuine image with high quality.

Hearing that, I was really confused as if I were a fool because I saw Full HD video shot by DSRL such as Canon 5D Mark II was really extremely clear and beautiful . Why did they not use their DSRL to shoot our video but something "6mm" (so weird !).

Since I do not know both betacam and 6mm camcorder so I just stopped the talk with that guy there and went home to search information about these camcorders.

I came to know that 6mm camcorder meant the camcorder employing 6mm video tape . And betacam is also something similar. These things are still popular in the industry as far as I know.

What do you think of these issues ? The studio manager told me to decide as soon as possible if I order them to shoot video or just only wedding photos. (They used DSRL 5D Mark II to shoot pictures but they do not use that nice device for video ! )

Thank you very much.

It sound to me as though he was trying to blind you with science, so he would sound professional and knowledgeable and you would feel like a humble supplicant at his feet.
Not a good attitude.
Shooting video with a DSLR isn't the be all and end all, it's an artistic choice, as is shooting stills with one, even so it sounds as though he doesn't know what he's talking about.
TBH I'd be taking my custom elsewhere.

6mm - uh ? 8mm , then hi8 and svhs , then minidv, then dvcam , then hdv etc etc - 8mm is analog video somewhat like betacam but not nearly as good - less than hi8 which is less than minidv ....well , you get the point - he was feeding you a load of crxp bro´- did he mention d1 ...just kidding ! 8mm should be around 350-400 lines of res max and be 4/3- any hd should be at least 700 and 16/9 --- advice- go to another videographer who´s not pulling your leg , but of course you could have just looked this all up at wikipedia

After I read your advices , I came there and asked them to show me at least one video sample. But they said that ... few people these days ordered them to make wedding video so ... they did not have any sample that time !

I found that those guys were really weird ! So I decided to find another studio.

Thank you very much.
