6D "Beta Footage" up at Cinema 5D

If moire is no worse than 5D2 than I don't consider it a major issue as it's never really bothered me that much.
I'd be interested in the full specs to see if it's in any way better than the MK2 in other areas.

It looks like a 5D2 and that has worked fine a long time. The aliasing certainly gives the footage a bit of pop compared to the supersmooth 5D3.

If you look for it, moire is actually very bad in some shots. There's also quite a bit of aliasing in the cashier shot. Damn...was hoping for this to be a cheap 5d3....guess it isn't.

Hey all, I shared some thoughts on another forum where people where bashing the 6D (a common trend) now the community here at DVXUSER is very positive and respectful, but I felt like re-posting my thoughts because I think a ton of people are forgetting what this camera is.

I for one am still very excited to add this to my camera bag. It will compliment my 7D and T2i as the full-frame in my bag.

Now yes, the 5DMK3 is better in many a way for both stills and video but I am really sick of people bashing the 6D.... it is a photo camera and if its video modes being underwhelming cost it 20-30% of customers that's ok because at its heart its a GREAT PRICE for a full frame camera that is 75%-90% for stills.

Really lets look at it over the 5DMK2

It's got 3 stops better maximum light sensitivity
A 10% larger screen
1, 040k dot screen over the MK2's 920
Better ISO boost
Newer digic processor
Longer battery life in number of shots
Shoots 4.5fps over 3.9
Has 11 focus points over 9 (and is apparently much more accurate)

..... and you might even be the kind of person who uses that wireless and gps stuff

What does the MK2 have at is new $1799?? max shutter of 1/8000th is nice (but that's not what people were complaining about on video forums.) and a slightly better view finder coverage.

So YES the video may have problems with moire and no headphone jack... the point is just the better noise handling and nicer screen add more to the video shooting experience than the Mark 2 and as a photo camera it is a leap forward at a GREAT price. It absolutely warrants the extra few hundred bucks and is a fantastic full frame camera at a great price. (well in spec, I haven't held one)

They are offering stills shooters something great, just because they started this "affordable large chip" shooting with their dslrs doesn't mean they have to continue to lead the pack. They need to protect c100 and c300 sales... and for the price of a rigged 5dM2 in 2009 I can now get an fs100 or AF100.... things have changed and this little camera is getting a ton of negative vibes from the video crowd and people are not realizing Canon is offering a worthy successor to the "entry level full frame" market the 5d 1 & 2 once held, and the price is great! As a photo camera it seems better than the Mark 2 in many areas. All they have really done is given the FF market 3 tiers, 6D, 5D, 1D.... sort of like how the 60D got repositioned when the 7D came out.

There is nothing wrong with not liking a camera, and it does suck to be let down when you "anticipate" something and it lets you down.... but the 6D is shaping up to be a very valuable tool.

I am really disappointed that the morie is not fixed! Really Canon? If this is the case in the production model, I may have to look at different cameras. I was so excited about this camera! It is frusttrating because you know that Canon knows how to fix it and they just choose not to. I really really hope the production model has the morie fixed. If it does, I most likely will buy two!

Why not buy one 5D3 that has no aliasing issues? It would be cheaper than two 6D's.

I have to chuckle at folks who though they were going to get the mark III features at a lower price.

The table goes to hell when the camera moves...... Such a shame.... It's like Canon makes the Cxxx line beautiful razor sharp 1080p and then the Dslr's just can;t get it...... So glad I moved to Panasonic GH

What I'm realizing now, especially after seeing the C100's stellar image, is that Canon is out of the hybrid game. The still cameras with video were always essentially an accident, but an accident from which they realized they needed also to be selling large sensor video camera bodies and cinema lenses... but it THIS is their response to the lower end user... I've seen some FUs in my day, and this is a serious dis from Canon.

(the writer of this post, by the way, still has a 5dii, bought the month the thing came out, but has shot more with RED ONE, GH1/2, and the EX1 in the past couple of years, and so I really don't have a stake in the Canon race - And yet I still feel sort of pissed at them!)

Canon is full of S%*! for this. Like why would they purposely limit their cameras and then show us the beauty they can do with C100 line.... SMH

I can never understand why you guys think they would undercut their own sales by offering ALL the features of a higher priced camera on an entry level camera. If they did they would be morons. Looked a bit closer at it and nice price for an entry level FF camera with great stills and decent video. I'm sure it will sell pretty well for them.

Agreed. Although it does seem Canon are really alienating a large part of their market; the low budget filmmaker. Their most recent cameras seem particularly out of touch with what people want compared to their competitors in terms of pricing and features.

Is it so? Let's take a look:

Sony DSLR's:
Everything moires and aliases badly.

Nikon DSLR:
Moire & aliasing

Panasonic GH3:
Less moire & aliasing. Though slightly more aliasing than the GH2.

So which competition and which pricing? Seems to me that the 5dmarkIII is still one of the best deals out there from the HDSLR cams.

+1

Have you seen the moire/aliasing on the d600? It's pathetic. Also, it's soft and noisy at high ISOs.
i wanted so much to like the A99, but till now, I can't find a reason to use it over the mark3...or basically any canon DSLRs...Yeah yeah, it has an articulating screen which would be nice, but I'm more concerned with image quality.
GH3...can't say much about it as i haven't seen much footage and can't really be bothered to. (Not bashing, just that I'm not a fan of the GH-series...personal opinion)
Blackmagic... Well, if you have tonnes of money to spend on ridiculous frankenrigs and can live with the many drawbacks (I can't)... Then yeah, it would be a great deal.

So yeah, 6d/mark3 are still quite relevant. :) I feel that the reason canon's getting so much hate is not that the cameras are bad, but simply because canon is sticking to its conservative approach (which for a Japanese company is really not unusual)...I respect them for sticking to principals though i would like to see them push the envelope a little. (wishful thinking: Put c300 sensor in 5dmkIV for below 5k? heh....One can dream, right? :))
