64GB "A" Series Cards

Well, this is interesting ... the Panasonic site no longer lists the 32GB or 64GB "A" cards; it only lists the "E" cards and the 16GB "A" card.

Spec-Comm doesn't list any 64GB "A" cards either.

Abel has the 32GB "A" card, but they don't list the 64GB.

From the looks of it, I'd say the larger "A" cards have indeed been discontinued.

We are just going to go ahead and purchase the "E" Series cards. I just hate to purchase something that is so expensive and know that it has a limited shelf-life.

It doesn't have a limited shelf life. It has a limited number of read/write cycles. If you use it once a week, it'll last 35 years. If you fill it and empty it five times a day, it might wear out in a year.

But there's no "shelf life" restriction.

Yes...read/write cycles is what I was referring to. I misspoke. Shelf-life was the wrong term. Our cards get recorded to and emptied frequently, so the number read/write cycles are of concern for us. We have had some "A" Series for 3 years now and they have performed flawlessly.

I'm sure many dealers will have A-series cards still in stock, and if not, you can almost always find some for sale here used in our marketplace.

wingnut,

keep in mind that that P2 card is still cheaper than tape- when you consider the number of times you can fill it up with video. 5,000- 60 minute tapes would cost a lot more than the price of a P2 card.

Jim

Agreed Jim,

Not to mention the time to capture that tape info and the odd dropout , head wear etc and on it goes...

Oh...I agree Jim. I am totally sold on and an early adopter of P2 recording. I just liked the fact that our cards from 3 years ago have been filled and emptied 1000s of times and still perform like they are brand new! Out of the 30 cards we have only one was defective and that was discovered within the first 3 days of use.

I'm guessing this means that Panasonic is waiting for stock to die down before they come out with another option (an affordable 128gb card?)

LOL Barry I notice you state this a lot to all those who question the E series card..... Maybe you should put it into your forum signature :0P

Yes, the "A" series cards have officially been discontinued.

(Sorry, we'd asked about this the other month and was told there wasn't any plans to discontinue them :-/ so I apologize for any confusion there.)

There are some dealers who have stock and are still offering them. Supplies are limited.

Hello Barry,

Panasonic has 16GB cards in stock, and that is a current model until "once this inventory has been sold, this product will be officially discontinued." So, they have stopped manufacturing new A series cards altogether, they are out of stock of the 32GB and 64GB (dealers and distributors may still have them), they have limited stock of the 16GB.

Why would you make such a card. You start out with a great card then step backward and offer a far lesser 1. Really just a smack in the face of dedicated customers if you ask me. Now they discontinue the larger cards and offer it in the limited card. What a rip off.
