Just shot a wedding. Did some shots in 720p/60p. I wanted to slow it down to 24p to get the slow-mo effect. I have read these forums for awhile and wanted know if there any difference if I slow it down to 40% on a 24p timeline vs if I interpret the footage to 23.97 on a 24p timeline? Thanks

I've been working on a project, and I have been going the interpreting footage route. I'm at work right now, but when I get home I'll try to see if there is a difference. Hopefully someone will have an answer for you before that though. I'm curious as well.

I too have this question. When using a Canon DSLR, at 60P, its as simple as changing the playback to 40% for liquid smooth slow mo.... Haven't had the same luck on the GH2 yet.... Maybe because of the 60i wrapper?

The GH2 actually does a better job than the Canons at 720/60P. The only 60i setting is for 1080i/29.97 and it's not in a wrapper. That was the GH1 that had 24p in a 60i wrapper but still had great 720/60P footage that can be slowed down by playing it back at 23.97 on a 24p timeline in CS5.

I put the same clip duplicated on a timeline on top of each other. One interpreted to 23.97 and the other slowed down by 40%. No difference from what I can see, including frame by frame.

We are in Pal land, and for weddings always shoot in 720/50P and then edit to 25P timeline. We do lots of slow motion, and have also found the results of either interpreting the clip or slowing on the timeline equally good. The advantage of interpreting the footage, is that then you can mark your in and out points on the slowed down clip before adding to the timeline.
