I've found that 60i results in overall smoother shots - you can clearly tell the difference when you toggle between 60i and 24p/30p; this is because the shutter is always open at 60i, so there is no strobing. 60i is "video". If that's what you need, regardless of quality, that's what you need.

The deinterlacing process does cut some quality I think.
