60i via dvx to 40% slow motion anyone?

I am wondering, next to 24pa footage how significant will the quality differ if shot 60i and slowed down 40% ("creating" a frame out of every field). I suspect this to be displayed on a wide screen television screen. Does anyone have any footage of such slow motion?
Thanks

There are examples on the DVX DVD. Shooting this way delivers frame-accurate slow motion, with a perfect motion simulation, but it's noticeably lower in vertical resolution.

How noticeable? Anybody average viewer noticeable or only expierienced video junkie noticeable?

Well, it's noticeable. However, everything about the shot will be noticeable, because it'll be running at 2.5x slow motion... so the shot will stand out anyway. I think in that context it works fine.

FWIW, all video-originated slow motion has been the same way for years.
It's not "below average" or anything.. It's pretty much "standard" but could be improved by 60p.

The only thing that happens is, diagonal lines tend to alias a little bit and the image looks softer. But it still looks good. the color, and "look" of the image is almost unchanged.

You can do it really easily, at home with ANY video camera. just shoot someone running around for a few secs and drop into a 24P timline, and slow it down. simple as that. yo ucan even make a custom test to see if your gonna liek how it looks with your project.

If i am in Vegas would i change the playback rate to a decimal rather than a percent like in premier pro?

Thanks guys, great examples! Is there a good deinterlacing plug-in for Vegas ?
Disjecta thanks for posting this again, i do remember seeing this before along with your other beautiful scenery shots.

I notice when i Slow mo my footage with vegas and premeire, i notice there is alot of blurring action going on. Is there a way to turn it off?

Disjecta, the second clip has every frame repeated twice. Looks like 12fps. The resolution held up well but the motion is weird.

Just a cinematography tip. If you're shooting slow motion of a character running/walking towards or away from the camera, film at full telephoto. By virtue of space being compressed, the character will take much longer to walk across the frame.

Weird, the motion looks smooth as glass on my computer.

If you can stand looking at video from an FX1, there was a whole music video done this way...

Of course, the benefit here is that there's neglible resolution loss when converting the 1440x540 fields to 480p. (works pretty well to 720p too actually). The slowdown is only 200% as the video is rendered at 29.97p.

Are there any suggestions with using 60i in a 23.98 timeline? I've used slowed down 60i footage with great success when mixed with 24P standard in a 29.97 timeline but it does nearly look as good (or smooth) when editing Advanced material in a 23.98 timeline. I've tried various % of slowness and also de-iterlacing without great results.

Why would you de-interlace the footage if your slowing it down and creating full frames anyway?

Because it looked blurry out of Premiere :undecided Maybe I did something wrong there though, only spent some 2 min on it for a test...
