in considering low light or need for gain
is there an advantage of either choice?

will one be easier to lighten up with the camera?

I believe 60i is better in low light. Not much, but only add gain if ABSOLUTELY necessary. Depending on the scene, you just might be able to do slow shutter. Slow shutter mode allows you to select several slow shutter speeds. They differ slightly depending on which frame rate you are recording in. In 60i mode, you get 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, and 1/30. In 24p, you get 1/6 and 1/12. If you go to the Menu and then go to SW MODE, you can assign one of the three user buttons to do SLOW SHUT. Then, you can experiment with it. You just need to make sure that your shutter is set to OFF. This can be done by pressing the SHUTTER button, located on the inside of the LCD screen. Then, you can press the assigned SLOW SHUT button. Now, this will make any motion look blurred, which can sometimes be a cool effect, but I wouldn't use it for anything that has anything moving in it.
