60i mode vs. 30p, strange results.???

De-interlacing is an evil that will hopefully be forever obsoleted when progressive-scan becomes more prevalent.

The "30p" mode in the FX1 is not actual 30p, it's one field. However, it will definitely always look better than straight de-interlaced 60i. The Cineframe 30 mode appears to get its information from one field without the de-flicker filter being employed, so you get a full 540 lines of vertical resolution. But the 60i footage gets its info from one of the de-flickered fields, which only have about 400 lines of res.

You may be able to get better results using a better de-interlacer. Look at Graeme Nattress' filters at www.nattress.com if you're on the Mac, or DVFilm's software if you're on the PC. Better de-interlacers can do better jobs.

I use the FX1E and cineframe 25. Cineframe put simply is a hardware deinterlacer, but there is a major difference between deinterlacing by using cineframe 25 or 30 and doing the same job with a software. the Hardware deinterlacer has "Clean informations", I mean no compression, it works on what goes out of the CCD, and I personally think that it does a very good job and then compress. I tried different deinterlacing software, and nothing come out as good as the cineframe 25.

Now my turn to ask a question, I watched your trailer on your site, and I was blown away with your 360 degree shots. so unless you've spend tens of thousand in equipment, would you be kind enough to tell how you did it?

Thanks

How can you tell the resolution ist better? I do see a lot of artifacts in the 60i shot that seem to be caused by some very strong camera movement.
