60fps Test: Cats & Guns

I just got my camera today and its so fricken bad ass. I was the last one to get it over at EVS. All thanks to Rush. These are just some quick clips I did when I got home. The first one was really dark because I didn't light it and it looks a little grainy because the levels are pushed up. All the other ones I just did a quick little lighting job on.

Nice stuff. Cats accelerating on a slippery wood floor -- excellent. But the gun stuff -- that's gold. I predict a massive influx of HVX gun-based shorts just from that! :)

Barry, thanks for the kind comments. I have a short that I've been waiting for this camera to come in to do that have a little bit of gun play in it. But ever since my brother saw the camera over at EVS we have started planning on doing a whole gun chase scene out in the woods up near Tahoe. Next time I go up there I'm going to get some rapid fire 60fps shots of the Glock and the .223 rifle. This camera is going to really change the way the Hollywood game is played.

Spencer, the only clip that I did anything to was the clip of the cats. All the gun clips were exported right out of FCP with nothing done to them.
 
i dont think the cats are poor, i think they are dead.

and how did yo uget the guns slide to go back and forth? liek obviously its a prop, but were did you get it, is it an Airsoft gun? or a purpose built propgun?
 
I hope those cats can run faster than that! Man, that VariCam gun stuff looks great.

The capacity to do slow motion in-camera is just another amazing advance for independent filmmakers. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share some great footage!

Xmag68, I got the airsoft gun from a online store, here's the link http://www.shortyusa.com/ . Look for ones that have blow back action in the gas powered section. BTW, I love my cats. They were just a little scared of the camera.

Bgundu and Emanuel, I think from the shots that the HVX and guns do mix, quite well in fact. You just have to treat the gun with respect and realize that it is dangerous. As you can see in the clips (with the real gun) my finger never is placed on the trigger.

Drew599 , I'm studying salva pistols, are they better to emulate a gun? I'm interested to simultate the fire on the gun when you shot. I know that in regular cinema it's a trick of director of photography and film stock, increase the light of the explosion from the gun. How we can have a professional special effect? With Final Cut or in post production?
We must buy a real gun to make good effects?
And someone has tried to double the 60p to 120p in post (double the footage) ? How the footage looks?
I'm sure that 120p is more good to do a slowmo of a gun when you recharge it,or shot.
