Hi guys i am i have canon 60d which i use manly for video since that is passion over last 2 weeks i been looking and reading about hacked gh2 camera and i am interested since video looks awesome but is it really that good compare to 60d for video? is it truly better then 5dmk2? I have the opportunity to sell my 60d for 1000 and get gh2 for 500 or would make a mistake if i sell 60d. Is there Technicolor Cinestyle for gh2 like there is for 60d? for color grading. I also purchased sankor 16c would my image improve with the hack gh2?

Thanks

better than canon 60d

a comparison video can say everything about your question

GH3 has too many sharp edges in its video in comparison. If that could have been dialed back (which I know it's able to) the image would look a bit different I think. I liked the Red Scarlet, then Gh2, 5Dll then GH3. Even the motion in the Scarlet looked better than the rest. The 5Dlll can now shoot RAW so it will do a lot better now than what we see in that video. Still...it won't be nearly as sharp as the Scarlet. But it will at least be second IMO.

I have both the canon t3i, and a gh2, I can tell you from several years experience, A hacked gh2 is leaps and bounds ahead of 1st gen Canon cams, it's night and day.

These are all very capable cameras and you can produce great work with any of them. I’ve had two GH2’s and loved the images they produced. I now have a GH3 and like it even more.

@MBRPRODUCTS- I am debating on selling one of my GH2s and getting a GH3. I know opinions vary but I have read that the GH2 (hacked) is quite better than the GH3 for video, especially in the noise department. As someone that has upgraded, do you have any regrets? I am very excited to see how well the GH3 still side performs, have you seen the improvement over stilld from the GH2? I am not that worried because the lighting for most of my shoots are controlled but I am still curious.

Thanks in advance for your input.

but is it really that good compare to 60d for video?

I bought a Canon 60D when it first came out, then 3 months later I bought a GH2 to use with my Canon 60D, and after owning the GH2 for one month I sold all my Canon gear because I knew that I would never shoot video with the 60D ever again.

The Panasonic GH2 video image gets even better when you apply one of the better patches like Lee Powell's 100 Mbit/sec FlowMotion ver 2.02. ( works best with high performance SDXC cards like the SanDisk 95MB/sec cards )

The one thing that you must keep in mind with the GH2 is that you need to grade your footage in post, as you likely won't get the look you are after straight out of the camera. If you don't want to grade your footage, then you are better off staying with the Canon DSLR cameras.

The main advantages of the Panasonic GH2 / GH3 cameras over the Canon 60D are...

- Very sharp image detail ( very noticeable in wide shots )
- Very little moire and aliasing ( the GH3 has a little more than the GH2 )
- Usable video auto-focus with the GH3 with the right lens
- You can use almost any lens ever made with the right adapter ( this includes excellent Canon FD lenses that can be bought for peanuts on eBay )
- Very good in camera audio ( -63 dB RMS noise-floor for the GH2, -66 dB RMS noise-floor for the GH3, which is about the same as a Zoom H4n recorder )
- Unlimited recording time ( one take can last as long as your camera has power and there is room on the memory card )
- No over-heating ever

comparing the gh3-2 with those cameras, get the 60d out of competition and that's what he wants to know. which is better. and he is a low budget. :-)

Currently I have both a 60d and gh2 and I can tell 99.9% of the time I reach for the gh2. As far as Technicolor Cinestyle for the gh2, I don’t think there is one but with the hack it isn’t really necessary. I agree that strait from the camera the Canons tend to produce a look that I like better but with a little grading the gh2 can really shine. I definitely don’t think you will regret getting a gh2 and IMO it is a better camera than the 60d.
