60d lens worth it?

I'm going to be getting a 60d soon and I was wondering if the lens that it comes with is worth getting if it's primarily going to be used for shooting video. If it's not a good lens for video then I will save the money and just by the camera body.

It's ok for a kit lens, but that all depends on what kind of things you are going to shoot. I would recommend grabbing some vintage prime lenses if you plan on doing short film/narrative work. For documentary work you would be better suited to grab a fast zoom. Get whatever you can afford. Kit lenses in general are usually kind of cheap on the consumer end of things and they get the job done.

If money is an issue, you might do better to look into the t3i, it seems to me that it is the same camera for a little cheaper (with some extra features).

I am concerned that the T3i will still have overheating issues. My primary interest in the 60D is because it's been reported to have no/very minor overheating issues.

I shoot weddings, so I will probably pass on the kit lens.

All the canon's overheat, though some faster than others. The 7d is the most resilient because it has two processors instead of one like the t2i, 60d, t3i. I am willing to bet that the 60d will overheat just as fast. I wouldn't worry too much about it because it usually happens after prolonged use of the video function in a warm environment. Do you have another camera already? It is a good idea to have a couple cameras while shooting events as a fail safe. You could probably pick up a t2i or hackable gh1 for cheap.

The canon 28-105 USM is a nice general purpose photography lens, it isn't supper fast but it has 8 aperture blades that make a very pleasing bokeh. I used it alot when I started off in wedding photography. I think there is a fast zoom by sigma that is relatively reasonably priced as well. You will want something with image stabilization for video which can be a little pricey but shop around on ebay a bit and you'll find a good deal.

The 7D is by far the most sensitive to overheating issues. The dual processors compound this problem. 2 processors in a weather sealed housing and you can overheat at room temp. I have seen it. Especially if you shoot 60P.

I use to see overheat issues all the time with my 7D. I have not had one on my 60.

I agree with Jason...
Never had an issue with my 60D and had many with my 550D...
I dont have a 7D but I ve seen it overheating...

I have the 60D with 18-135mm IS UD lens and it's a fantastic starter\walkaround lens. Higher quality construction than most kit lenses, and upgraded glass as well. I'm very happy with it, even if it is a bit slow.
