Those capturing footage(fire wire) on your computer, via camcorder ruin the heads? If so what should I get?

Keep in mind your camera heads should easily last 1,000 hours, maybe 2,000. So it's not usually that much of a worry. It's better to keep your $3,400 camera doing its $3,400 camera job because you can get a little $300 camera to do the capture job but -- if you have to use it for a capture deck, it can be done. It's just a bit wasteful to tie it up doing such a menial job is all.

This is good to know. I was planning to use my new DVX to provide preview output to my Sony PVM14L1 monitor. Instead of getting a cheap cam, is there any value in getting something like the Canopus ADV110 which costs about $230?

What is the best way to connect an s-video monitor for previewing and color correction of 24pa footage from Premiere Pro 2 for under $500?
