60 fps & 6 Megapixels

I've been wondering how long it would take for a camera company to develop a still camera that could reach high fps and keep a massive resolution.

Link: Engadget

Casio is the first company to do this, as far as I can tell, using a sensor developed by Sony. It should have "a resolution in the ballpark of 2921 x 2184." This could be a sign of things to come.

Now we need one with interchangeable lenses. Come on Nikon.

Of course you can. However, if this camera will only cost ~$1-2k why compare the $17.5k Red masterpiece to something like this. That's what make this new camera an interesting prospect, price per pixel.

Interesting development; I'm sure someone will try to make a movie with it. Might succeed.

But that doesn't mean it's a suitable movie camera, particularly if what you want is 24p.

I think it could, though, have some use as a Mythbusters-style slo-mo camera, for short demos, etc..

This is an important product development. Looks like the first consumer high speed "camera".

Waiting for specs of buffer size/speed ............ hopefully it has enough HP to stream direct to the SD disk.

Here's a direct link to the product site: http://world.casio.com/ngdc/en/

If they can do 300fps in VGA mode, maybe a 150fps in a 720p or 1440x1080i mode? That would be fantastic...

Probably not 150; 1280x720 is four times as big as 640x480 (VGA), so I'd guess 70-80 fps -- if it follows a proportional curve.

Amazing stuff. Still prototype.
But its probably based on Sony chip announced before ;-)
... so we can expect more products with this...
... just wonder if anybody create handy photo/video/speed device with exchangable lenses and variable fps with this chip for few bucks?
