6 On-camera Video Lights Shootout

Dale,

You can place order through the web site. At the check out page, there is a box you can enter additional instructions. But you are always welcome to PM or email me proviately. My email is takyc@hotmail.com

I have a customer bought the CM900 light. That light doesn't have a dimmer switch but a 2 level brightness switch. He found it's too bright if performing an interview. So he put a piece of tracing paper in front of it. It works well.

I'm sure the light can live up to the expectations. ... Hopefully if more people buy it, i can order more quantity and lower the price.

Look at this thread from another customer about his First Impressoin of the CM1800 light

Thanks

ullanta, I see what you mean. The comer light is different in this aspect. The filter is not detacable. When using the comer light without the diffuser and condenser, the light is already diffused (that is great as filter only decrease the light intensity).

The upper piece on top of the Comer light is for changing the color temperate. That will shift the color temperature from 4500K to 3200K, and reduce the light intensity too. That's why the comer light works better than the Sony because it is default at 4500K not 5600K. The light output is quite warm already. With the sony light you have to apply the warmer to lower the color temperature in order to use it for indoor. Otherwise, the video will be all blu-ish.

I recently found a trick in using the CM1800 light. Usually when you zoom in, the iris will close up and less light will enter the sensor, thus darker video. When using the CM1800 light, I flip the condenser up but not all the way. Open it just a little. It will condense the light to a small spot. It works perfectly to fill the light when I zoom in. You will have to try it out yourself :)

After a week of use all i have to say is that this light is Amazing!!! plenty of power... in fact I'll be placing another order for a second light... I just love the color of the LED's!!! and you can use them as floods!!!

Great units!!!

Great Light!
I order the Comer1800 received my ordered promptly. I used it on 2 events (weddings) so far and highly recommend this light. I was surprised how well one light help light up the dance floor.

Not that I don't believe Taky's video at all for this light (I do and it looks great!) but can anyone else take some video of it, if only for 10-20 seconds?

I'm looking to see how it looks in terms of in an interview on someone's face.

Taky: Can you possibly take some video of this light used on someone's face (anywhere from 3-5 ft away or 5-8 feet away)? Maybe a shot or two with a frame shot close up as well as one with a wide angle. I'm just looking to see how it looks in terms of lighting. As well, the room you shoot something it, can it be moderately lit by either natural lighting or maybe by lamps too?

Sorry for these requests, I'm just wanting to see how the light looks on someone's face.

Dale, no problem. I will shoot some videos using the comer light and post it online soon. stay tuned.

Taky:

Excellent! In the meantime, I will work on my wife to convince her that I have to have this light for my HVX200. I will try to buy it soon from your site too, I really do need something like this :)

TIA,
Dale

The Comer LED lights kick butt!

I was working at a wedding few weeks ago. The ball room was completely dark. Luckily I have the CM1800 lights. Here's the difference

This is the wedding I did earlier this year that I use the Comer 1800 lights for the first time. As you can see from the photos, the room is very dark with only several uplights around.

Check out this Vimeo video. I turned off the light pointing at the live band. It's really dark.

It is a very extreme situation. During the ceremony, it backlight pretty bad. Half way through, it's night time. If I don't have the lights with me, the event won't be the same.

I just piced up my new HMC-150 and was looking for a new LED light to pair with it. Since I just burned through a huge wad of cash on the camera I had to go cheap. Nonetheless I picked up a pretty awesome light for a great price.

Go take a look at the Bescor LED-150 kit at B&H. It has five 3 watt led's (3 watts draw at full power) with an equivalent output of 150 watts. As a 12 v light the current draw is only 1.25 amps. The battery that I chose was the NIMH battery with roughly 4.5 amps. It's nice that I can finally stop wearing a 10 lb lead acid battery belt for weddings. This light is brighter than my old cool-lux 50w and lasts longer on a smaller battery and has a dimmer all for under 300 bucks complete.

In a word "AWESOME".

These photos were taken by a photographer with his Canon 5D. The Comer light was mounted on camera and she spot condenser was on. That's why it has a narrower spot light beam.
