6 camera concert filming with the 5D

FYI I wouldnt put a lot of trust in the plural eyes program... I had a concert where we recorded (decent) audio from all the cameras and then tried to sync with the board audio - no go.

What was the problem that caused the Plural eyes to fail? I haven't used it but all feedback so far seemed it was too goo to be true. "Foolproof". Good to hear a downside before a potential disaster. Anybody else have a similar negative experience?

I recently bought it and have been using it in Vegas with much success (I do a lot of jazz gigs, see sig), but it's a little too preliminary for me to be passing complete judgment yet given my limited experience with it.

One tip: you want to do the sync very early in the workflow with Vegas cause it moves everything around on the timeline, which can screw things up if you've already got a lot going on in the timeline. I've been dropping my "cleanest" channels of the entire set (usually a stereo pair of ambient or SBD) into the timeline, then drop all of my video clips -- in chrono order, using the chrono option in Plural Eyes -- into the timeline, and then run the sync. Once all synced up, I bring in all of my other audio channels (if any) and just line those up with the audio already in the timeline. It's been working like a charm. This is for music gigs, I haven't done much with it for interviews yet, but I'm assuming that will be a much easier task for the software.

You probably do want to sync early in the workflow for lots of reasons, but note that PluralEyes will only sync the events you select and if you lock one of them it will stay fixed during the sync. That makes it possible to "touch up" a sync or do it later in the workflow without messing things up.

The Z1s were used for wide shots, so the depth of field wasn't so much of an issue. Grading helped a lot to match everything up - that and fast cuts!
