$6 battery chargers from Hong Kong?

My dual charger for my AF100 stopped working :/ It's made by IDX. Not sure what's wrong with it, but is there a place I can repair it?

if not, I need a replacement. Was looking one bay and saw a ton of cheap chargers. I am wondering why they are so cheap and if I should stay away, or if a charger is a charger is a charger?

Thanks, recommendations welcome! A dual charger would be great - or a couple more single chargers. Either way. My stock AF100 charger that came with the camera still works fine.

All battery chargers are not equal, the $6 thing might do as an emergency charger but recent news on cheap cloned iPad chargers catching fire / exploding etc is not a good sign. I would like to think the Panasonic charger is semi intelligent and monitors the battery, I doubt the cheapo chargers do this, its probably a basic power supply wit ha cut off when a certain voltage is reached. Considering batteries are expensive I would only use the cheap one in an emergency.

Agreed. You don't want to mess with charging Lion batteries. They will catch fire. You probably recall the Boeing 787 LIon battery issues. Well, they burned down a whole building during development. Don't ruin your good batteries.

OK, so either that ebay link for the $34 charger ^^

Or are there places that can repair my non-charging IDX charger? Not sure why it just stopped

I've been using cheapo batteries and chargers bought on Ebay for years without issue. The Canon LP-E6s even have the chip to communicate with the camera. The chargers' lights go out when the battery has finished charging and if I remove it hours later, it's cool to the touch.

Batteries and chargers are potential fire starters and well documented as cause of fires in un attended situations (eg overnight)

I dont even leave my better quality ones on over night and I never leave them plugged in when not in use at all.

A $6 piece of kit ...no way ...ever.!

IDX I would consider a better quality 3rd party charger and I would think fixable.
Take it to an automotive electrician for anaylsis. Its only electricity and circuits.

Why do that when IDX has tech support and can advise, evaluate, give you an estimate, and even fix it if you choose?

Do you have an IDX service center in your town, city?

You think they can do what you suggest on the internet?

Bet they dont have a service center anywhere or at least practically close.

Its basic 101 electronics that locals should be able to sort.

I would buy a new one anyway and not mess around with basic disposable hardware ...but .. still pull the broken one apart myself to test it.
