I remember that weekend. I was trying to figure out how to break into the office of my high school custodian so I could rig the sprinklers to go off during my graduation....

Ghostbusters fared better.

I remember that for months leading up to the movie release, there were increasingly larger ads in the newspaper with no text, just the "no ghosts" logo (that red slash as "no" symbology was new at the time, I believe), and how much I was looking forward to seeing it as I came to know for sure that it was about the movie.

Great times back then. I was about to leave 4th grade and go into the 5th. We saw ghostbusters 3 times at the movies. Hell, it costs us $3.00 before 5.

That's the year I got my first camcorder. Quazar VHS. I still have it.
I guess that means I have been in video for a quarter of a century now.
Man, that makes me feel old.

I still have my RCA VHS camcorder. The thing is huge!! I still have it too. I remember trying to edit using the camera and the VCR. Push play, then pause. Get the VCR rolling then push pause. Then push play on the camera and record on the VCR!! It work kind of!!

The logo with the red slash began 25 years ago? Wow. I'm not doubting you, but that blows my mind. Being born in 1991, I figured that sign was just always part of mankind. I feel like I have such a weak grasp of time.

For example, the familiar tune from Beethoven's 5th symphony could have been written one day before my birth, or one million years, and I wouldn't have any clue, unless I had been told otherwise.

Sorry to get off topic. Ghostbusters scared the sh*t out of me when I first saw it.

No it's older than that.

It originated in traffic signs and was already in wide use for things like NO SMOKING long before ghost busters came along. That's what they were playing on with the Ghost Buster's logo - the wide use of and familiarity of the traffic signs / no smoking signs / no dumping - whatever you can image.

I'm gonna say at it was at least in use by 1980. WIKI only shows that it all started with traffic signs and gives the regulations for which but does not give dates.

Good to know. It makes more sense that Ghostbusters got the symbol from traffic/law signs, instead of the opposite.
