5DtoRGB beta available for download

I know, thanks. I read the instructions, but nothing happens when I drag the media to the droplet. Am I missing something?
If you drag a Canon file onto 5DtoRGB's icon, it should open it. You'll see the clip name, frame count and frame rate. You still have to select the transcode options and click "Convert..." to start the process.

If you can't get it to work, send an email to the support address in the beta notice that displays when you launch the program with your system specs, OS version, etc.

when i set it to convert the (RAW) mode, everything is purple, is that normal? it's interesting to see various results. 609 gives the closest to the h264 original, slightly flatter and less saturated, but much more acceptable than a traditional pro ress transcode, while 709 pushes the highlights and saturation a bit more. Must just be the nature of each zones in color interpretation.

Will future release, can we see full batching and possible increase in speed of encoding by pushing processor usage? It's looking really good...

I couldn't see an option to export to DPX, is this a bug?? - I would like to try that option - this being the preferable export option for VFX work.
A new beta copy is available that does DPX output. I've also raised the processing limit to 30 seconds and added an option to specify a gamma setting in the QuickTime file so you can override QuickTime's funky gamma behavior.

Thanks Thomas - excellent work! Will give this a go over the next couple of days.

Are you planning on adding a batch processing option in the release build?

Using Camera Raw

Using Camera Raw

I have never used a camera raw source. I don't know if I'm using the software
wrong but every combination of conversion I've used with the camera raw setting
it turn little purple.

Is that the way it is supposed to look?

If so then in order to make the video clip look corrected you need to play with the hue in a color grading program?

Thanks.

The "Raw YCbCr" option does not perform any matrix decoding. Hence, you get weird-looking output. Keep in mind that H.264 stores picture as luminance, plus blue (minus luminance) and red (minus luminance). This option is not generally useful (except for maybe extracting unprocessed luminance data), but I added it in case someone needed access to this data.

Raw YUV data needs to be decoded before you can get RGB. If you want full control over decoding, use dMatrix and export a custom decoding matrix.

Thanks Thomas for explaining it to me. It is unchartered territory for me, I'll give it a shot and see if I can improve some of my footage, I did notice a change already without really knowing what I was getting into.

Thanks again.

Any further news on progress? Very much looking forward to a multi threaded batching solution, hopefully that's in the works!

it's currently for a pro res workflow, and dpx. but i think he's concentrating on pro res first and foremost. really isn't a windows encoding option for pro res unless you are running things like telestream and more specialized software... But good point, dnx options and cineform options would be greatly appreciated in future releases!!!!

Hi Guys,

is there no windows version? :=(

If not, is there a similiar tool for windows?

thank you

Thomas - just wanted to say I'm extremely excited. We have a feature that we are currently shooting and I'm hoping we can use 5DtoRGB for post.

I hope you can encorporate either a batch file system or make it a plug in for After Effects.

Generally what we do is edit in Premire / Final Cut then import the timeline into AE for Color Work. So technically if it was a plug in that could grab the original files and then control the export it would save lots o ftime. If not, at least with a batch file export option you could let it run overnight to get the 444 files. On average we shoot well over 40 hours of footage for a feature.

So if an AE plug in, people would only have to transcode 70-120 minutes for a feature, if it can't be done then they have to decode 40 x 60 minutes 2400 minutes! LOL Also another option could be for 5DtoRGB to read the AE timeline file and simply use the data to create the final file - only issue with that is that any fancy plug ins probably wouldn't work.

But I applaud you and those other people who are reworking the indie world. We bow down to you.

I hope you do! Rest assured you'll have the best source for color correction.

I am currently working on some things. I'm getting a lot of good feedback, and am working with a few people on getting all of the options finalized. I thought this was going to be done back when I entered beta, but with so many good suggestions I realized that things still needed to be added. There will be an announcement sometime next week.

Thanks! Just trying to add my little contribution here.

Hi Thomas
i asked you on other thread under the "DSLR Equipment forum, couldn't get a reply
I know it is hard to monitor every where

so here again
will be there any full GH1 support in the future? (with audio)
thanks

This little application is insane, really, it is absolutely astonishing, I could simply not believe what it was doing to footage.

Just incredible!

Thank you very much!
