5DmkIII movies are not smooth

Hey Rockmore good to hear from you - tripod is Manfrotto 351MVB2 and head is 503HDV - pretty smooth. I don't remember it being jumpy during play back in the camera I think most of it might be my computer maybe? I will have to run another test. I'm doing a test on some ice skaters tomorrow so it will be interesting to see how it handle at a more faster speed.

When you say earlier test do you mean the one I posted awhile back of the jitty footage with the horses? If so that was shot with the t3i.

I will have my camera with me when I go to the Canon class in October and will have those Canon guys tear it a part to make sure all is in working condition and if not then I will be sure to send it back for replacement. Don't remember how long the wart is on the camera I think a year will have to look that up.

Perhaps it's a QuickTime problem? Try playing back with VLC which uses its own internal CODECs. Try playing on another machine

Sorry I was referring to Hepers test at the head of this thread of the pan on the leaves. There is a big problem in that shot with added frames or dropped frames. It would be unfortunate if the error is being generated by the camera. At any rate I'm curious to know before sinking cash into an MK3.

I shot some footage yesterday at the ice skating event and the footage on my PC look pretty crappy jumping around sometimes it would move fast then slow down I even have VLC and still the same. I moved the footage to my imac and played it on the desk top and in imovie and it played fine. My PC laptop is a window 7 64 Bit ASUS w/ 1TB hard drive and 8GB of RAM. I wonder if I need to up my computer some and move from Vegas Pro 9 to Vegas Pro 11?

I took my laptop into the shop today. They are replacing the Hard Drive they also said my video card is missing and that could be one of my main problems. My laptop has two hard drives. One is 500gb and the other was 500gb but is getting upgraded to 750gb with 7200 rpm

After I get it back I will run some test footage and see if I still have the issues.

Is the video shot in IPB mode? IPB playback requires significant resources and it might be that your hardware is not capable enough. What's your CPU and video card?

It was shot in IPB since I was using a low end SD card. I have a new CF card coming in this coming week and I will go to ALL-I. I'm not sure what the CPU or Video card but when I receive the computer back later in the week I will post that info. Is there a way to increase the video card like increasing the ram? What would the best CPU be?

It seem the major issues is my computer. Some how I lost my video card and some other stuff. I had a new harddrive put in so hopefully that will fix it.

You can't "lose your video card"...I mean..you can, but then you won't be able to see anything on your screen.

...and hard drive speed has nothing to do with it. Any modern hard drive produced within the last 10-15 years can handle most video easily, unless you go uncompressed.

Did you slow down the footage at all in the NLE? If I shoot at 24p and slow it down in Premiere, it looks like that. Other than that, I would consider updating your NLE. Vegas 9 is old -- perhaps download a trial of Premiere and test it out, as well as updating your codecs.

I updated vegas to 11 over the weekend. Sony ended up charging me twice so now I have to spend countless hours on hold to see if I can get them to drop one charge. I did talk to the CC people and they said to contact Sony. Kind of sucks. Still messing with the camera. Going to try and do a short shoot next weekend and will see how that works out.

I downloaded your Movie from YT, took it to AE, changed the fps all around and it always was jumpy; in AE. However this movie as a downloaded 720HD from YT play's smooth as a babies bottom on both my Shite-Internet computer and my workstation...Smooth as a button!
