5dmk2 fault - anyone seen this problem before?

My Canon 5dmk2 seems to have developed a weird fault, anyone seen anything like the above clip where the colours have gone crazy?

The above incidentally was shot on Cinestyle so the normal image/video is much worse!

what WB setting is this at? and whats the light source? Check your WB SHIFT/BKT in your menu, it may have been moved too far off. Also whats your other settings, like ISO?

Hey, it has the problem at all ISO/Apertures, i.e. no matter what I change it to it remains. The WB Shift is 0/0 too!

how does skin tones look like? have you tried clearing your settings? when did this start? have you shot the sun prior to this?

Here's a couple of Flickr photos - it affects all the images I've taken, Raw, Jpeg and Video. The above was a Jpeg Cinestyle profile, the Raw was about ten times more colourful!

I wonder if it's a battery/power related issue was it started coming on when I was filming music clips, doing 10/20 seconds here and there, camera on/off etc. I was about to send it to Canon so took the battery out for a few days, put it back in and it was ok. Waited an hour and it was bad again, suggesting some weird battery/power/memory issue.

No-one have an idea?

Just got a repairs estimate back from Canon - £842.10! = $1310!
= new PCB.

Eurgh.

If you'll take your photos from your flickr and share them over here ( digital grin) you'll get help! You'll have to regsiter, but it's quick easy and free. The guy that moderates that area of the forum is a camera guru!

As an update to this:

Canon have basically refused to budge with this repair bill. I've said to them that the camera has clearly mechanically/electronically gone wrong and there's no way it should be doing so, having such a catastrophic failure in such a short space of time (2 years) - that essentially it's utterly unreasonable for it to have broken in this manner so soon.

I wanted to try to work something out with them, I own lots of Canon gear, lenses, flashes, have had multiple bodies etc. I wanted them to ideally fix it for free, recognising it was not within reasonable parameters for it to fail so easily. I would have accepted some sort of deal worked out to fix it for cheap, anything that is showing decent behaviour.

Unfortunately, after a nearly a month of trying to get them to call me, of this endless struggle, I finally get to talk to a person who is incredibly rude and obnoxious to me and dismissive.

Basically, I either sell it as faulty or stump up the repair. If I do the latter then not only will I immediately sell the camera afterwards, but I'll also probably sell all my Canon gear.

I've been testing my GH2 for the last few days and it's great hacked, there's other things like the NEX-7 coming out etc. Canon aren't bosses of video anymore, in fact they're behind compared to others.

And frankly, after the appalling customer service they have there's no way I want to be involved with Canon, they treat people terribly and I'm going to jump ship.

So if your car broke down after two years of use and Ford reused to repair the car for free would you jump ship and buy a Chevy?

I hate to say so but in my opinion you are being unreasonable here.

I have to somewhat agree. In general extended warranties and insurance are ripoffs... Unless you need them.
Two years, or almost a year past the base warranty.... Not sure what you expected them to do.

If I bought a £50,000 Jag or whatever and it was a right off after two years of normal usage, yes damn right I wouldn't be happy with that.

Why am I frustrated though?

It's a double thing, firstly I find it crazy that it's gone wrong so quickly, two years for a piece of tech is not a reasonable life span and since it's an electronic fault I feel it's a problem from the camera maker should fix as it's not through my usage. I had the same thing with an Apple laptop, the PCB broke and Apple fixed it for free as they said that shouldn't happen and it was their responsibility. I've since bought a boat load of Apple gear.

The second fact though is that it's taken me two months to actually get talking to a person, you call Canon up and they just put you through to some random switchboard in mainland Europe who flags up that you want someone to call you, you can't call them directly. When my camera first went funny I left a dozen of these requests asking to talk to someone, asking to send someone pics so they could check it out before I booked in a repair, no one bothered to get back to me until I took the day driving to the repair centre myself.

Even then once they sent me the repair estimate, which I feel is, as I said, ridiculous, I wanted to discuss it with someone as I felt it was excessive. Again cue a dozen messages, no one calling me like they were meant to, no one replying to email. I only finally got speaking to someone as I begged this poor girl to give me a direct number (b/c as I said you have to 'request they call you', you can't call them) which eventually after seeing all my calls on the system she finally did.

After finally talking to someone and explaining why I wanted us to work something out I got possibly the most dismissive and rude response I've ever heard, before eventually asking to talk to someone to try again to come to a plan. This person was meant to call me, because of course, I can't call them. This person has not bothered to call me.

The camera breaking after two years ruins my trust in Canon products, in their ability to be relied upon.

But the abysmal way they treat their customers is what ultimately is poisoning me against the company and is why I'm probably going to switch brands.

If they can't even treat me with a basic level of decency, let alone spend two months to get to the point of them being rude at me, there's no desire on my part to continue any association with their brand.
