We should let the things rolling now since Anthony (squig) has come and his posts can be funny and no less technically useful too.
:Drogar-Shock(DBG):

I have a theory about reducing aliasing that I'm going to try to test but I need someone to tell me what I have to do to accentuate the aliasing?

My theory is based on the fact that aliasing is made up of squares right?

So if you shoot with a 2x anamorphic lens/adapter and scale the image down 50% horizontally you halve the size of the alias squares turning them into rectangles and thus halve your aliasing. You can try it for yourself and just scale those red vs MKII test shots in photoshop. The bigger aliasing is noticeably reduced and the smaller stuff becomes almost invisible. It only works if you only scale on one axis though, if you scale horizontally and vertically there's no aliasing reduction.

Most part of roofs too, Anthony. This is what affects most @ wide end in real world cases, above all.

Take a look here for a better information on the issue:

BTW, the first tests with the Caprock 2.0 filter were posted a few minutes ago:

Wouldn't you like to test this here:

A single or two layers should be enough against aliasing. Every serious photographer knows it as helpful tool in order to give softness to dream-like portraits.

Ok I'll make a foil hat, slap on my 24mm nikon and go stand under some wires.

I read somewhere that tulle doesn't work very well on video cameras but these aren't video cameras are they. I have a tiffen film look filter kit that I haven't had a chance to play much with yet.

looks like the caprock might be the answer, an expensive one.

Don't you remember where?

Apart my own stuff :laugh: and dvinfo.net but without conclusions as well, I've just found this @ google but not exactly related to video -- well, it can be adapted ;-)

If DP's like Rodney Charter are using if for a network series, this issue must be minimal to say the least.

Like many said, it's shot dependent. It's like when certain details reach a frequency of detail, then it exacerbates the issue. By no means does it take away the MKII's stunning image it has earned in the press.

However I look forward to seeing when Canon does V.2 of their DSLR video combo. The MKII' HD mode was a fluke feature.

The next one it will be dual designed and integrated and I'm sure will be super stunning. I hope that Canon drops the mechanical mirror system and either goes with a very high res VF like 1.5MP or ?......
