5D vs Red aliasing etc fun analysis PICS.....

Pappas: Seriously take Kholi's suggestion.. don't sweat it.. my reply was just a meaningless reply to a meaningless thread on an internet forum. Seeing that you're pretty detail oriented (by all the quotes you provided) I never technically said or accused the OP of tweaking the results.

Don't sweat it Pappas. Had this fun test seen the mkii as a winner they'd be praising you. The second the mkii is flawed the it's " hur hur it only costa a nickel wut u expect mang. Ha. "

I think you are missing the point, no one is claiming 'victory' for the 5D in the aliasing department - the RED obviously resolves this kind of detail far far better - what people are saying is that the 5DII sample clips are far from representative of the 5DII.

My point was to question the comparison not the conclusion.

Anyhow, perhaps the point may be a little too effete, but don't worry yourself, your RED camera is without doubt the winner here, you can now stop checking in (and presumably reading every post) every day - just to point out how useless, silly and pointless the thread is.

silly thread is silly

So true Kholi, so true!

There's three camps of people:

1. This person cares so much for the device their using or wanting; that they develop a motherly love for it and will defend it while either blindly or knowingly being aware of it's flaws. All along trying to convince others that they are wrong and it's perfect or near perfect...

2. This person knows it flaws and is completely aware of them; and makes it work regardless to achieve final outcome. This individual makes no defense for its weakness's. They have no issues accepting or being told about the realities at hand, even if they spent their last dollar to get it.

3. This person is not a pixel peeper at all, and doesn't know what aliasing, S/N ratios etc are. This individual achieves final outcome of their project and walks off not even being aware that they don't give sh*t of flaws of any kind that might be in the material. They just get to work, and " Do It", and deliver....

It's cool.

This is a Monty Python skit really.... We are the cast; just we don't know it yet!

It's all in good fun!

Told ya pappas.

This is the same dude here defending the [aliased] image to the death every time someone posts something negative.

Gotta love it. But he's cute.

Yep! ;-/

This reminds me of this:

Yes, Lee has placed this thread in flames. Take a look on his last response to my last post. LOL Glad we have our gentleman, Isaac. And you Richard/Rick have come here to take the proper place when others make reference to anyone outside. Reminds me the old times of my high school. But take me out of that remark too 'cause I've always preferred to avoid the bad guy part. :)

Like I suggested, the point may be a little too effete for some.

Stated clearly, the RED camera handles aliasing much better than the 5D, but the examples used here are certainly not representative of the 5D2.

I am hardly "defending the [aliased] image to the death" - I have said repeatedly that the 5D2's aliasing is poor, I have stated that even the little HV10 beats the 5D2 when it comes to aliasing - all I am saying is this test presents a very exaggerated view of the problem - and as it is a comparative test it is misleading.

Feel welcome to imagine my point as a RED v 5D2 argument - a 'my camera is better than your camera' argument, I am sure there are more than enough people around to engage you in that kind of debate - but I am not too interested myself.

You're right. In all honesty, both cameras were not shown at their best. That means the Mkii setup to capture the best image that it can in-camera, the RED processed to the best of its ability (or at least processed) via REDcine to 1080 H264.

Rich did say that he was just havin' fun and doing his own quick and dirty test, generally this is why I'll personally never do a camera comparison or shootout. It takes a lot more effort and a meticulous nature to do it right. The difference in image quality would have been pretty vast had it been done that way.

So yeah, you're right.

Ah ! argumentum ad hominem, where have you been ! :)

Your last post:

There are no facts, only presumptions . . . .

Was obviously a fallicy (a self-negating statement - if there are no facts, then the statement 'there are no facts' is not factual)

I just thought I would point that out, no intention to offend.

Emanuelllll

rpp's?

By the way that mkii vid ya sent was nice. IS is a must hAve for sure.

Hi Kholi,

No RED primes here once I've spent a lot in glass lately, russian glass actually. The customs part is the most painful 'cause you're giving money without knowing to where the money goes.

Thanks for your words. As matter of fact, I've received some requests on my PM box 'cause nice remarks such as yours. LOL

5D Mark II plus an IS L lens class is a sweet set up with no rival out there . RED ONE included. But definitely not at the wide end. This is what the excellent unbiased Richard Darge's comparison test has proved. Accuse someone of... his innocence is the most unfair move we can get in these boards for years.

I wouldn't say the same about the upcoming Scarlet. That one when will arrive, it will put our world upside down. Just two words added to the RED ONE, weight and size.

Greetings from Europe,
Emanuel :-)

I'm no great defender of any piece of technology like us it's all flawed. I've been shooting with the MKII for 2 weeks now and done a lot of peeping and I haven't seen any aliasing. Camera hasn't been getting hot.

using 35mm and 105mm nikon ai prime lenses and ND8 filter shot @ f/2.8 - f/5.6 shutter 1/50-1/100

my settings-
everything auto off
tweaked neutral setting-
0 sharpness
-4 contrast
-2 saturation

just got some russian glass.....fantastic

Does that mean your sharpness is in the middle or dialed down to zero?

Like you, I presume  when you are days or weeks without posting, working for paying the bills. :)

No offence taken. Your funny posts are also appreciated not only 'cause you are a free spirit but because they are really funny. An intelligent poster, by the way. Stubborn as much as you can find, as well :-) Although, last time I could check you had done a turn of 180º or, at least, decided to just throw in the towel (flickering issue -- do you remember?); smart.

On your assertion, in order to have a fact, you need an event, but you can't forget the source and context. In a cumulative order, without one of them, there are no facts. Phrasing you before or something similar, quite simple right? ;-)

We should let the things rolling now since Anthony (squig) has come and his posts can be funny and no less technically useful too. Richard/Rick can also give us a hand in order to understand how the 5D Mark may be set up to match the RED ONE outcome as better as possible (fanboysproof :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)).
