5D vs Red aliasing etc fun analysis PICS.....

That's not the way 5D footage looks. I think there is a problem with the way the footage was rendered. It looks like it has been deinterlaced. And 5D footage is progressive, it needs no deinterlacing. The only times I've seen this mess on 5D footage was when some editors were working on Adobe Premiere. This doesn't happen on FCP.

Oh yeah; don't talk to the man with the pink hat, offering the tootsie roll...........bad things. :-l

Now go here: Files sourced from: http://vimeo.com/5160288

Yep, that looks like where the problem is, the original files from Richard Darge look very suspect, I am leaning towards the idea that the 5D2 footage has been de-interlaced (which it obviously does not need).

Whatever has happened in the workflow, I can say with some confidence that the 5D2 footage looks nothing like full resolution 5D files, and like I have previously said (and hopefully shown) that the nearest I can get to these terrible quality samples is to scale an actual 5D clip down to 50% and then back up to it's original size (throwing away 75% of the clips information).

Richard Darge is a decent moviemaker, not a silly fanboy. He wouldn't do nothing in order to degrade his new tool or toy.

Even Mr Darge is subject to making mistakes.

Inerrancy is rare enough amongst deities.

You should judge the situation on the facts, the material you have in front of you, rather than on the character of the people presenting this material.

I can't see any aliasing at all in that pacifica clip and it strikes me as the kind of footage where aliasing would be apparent. Wasn't there some talk that aliasing becomes a problem when the MKII gets too hot?

Anyone can make mistakes but we need to be careful with the words or we can originate plagues such as this example here -- from what has previously been posted as (something) « very suspect » :

As I wrote:

It's just for fun and not an exact nor even approximate let alone perfect analytical scientifically approved by a committee of our own educated peers of unattainable stature......

It's just a fun test..

Michael Pappas

to the OP, I think it's better to have access to his own raw footage rather than pulling from compressed vimeo files off of the web for comparison purposes.. I'm too lazy to check but it wouldn't surprise me if the OP degraded Drake's 5D2 clips on purpose to create this sensational thread!

Of course.

But being careful should be subject to the facts, rather than to the character of those presenting opinion.

If Richard Darge shows me a circle and explains it is a square, I will point out that I think it is a square, regardless of whether he is a great film maker, Olympic swimming champion or minor deity.

You see, Lee?

No, not really.

Before we drift into some esoteric philosophical backwater, let me just make my points once more and clearly.

1) The footage from the 5D2 in this test looks noticeably sub-standard, to the degree that renders the test meaningless.

2) The history or character of the person who produced this footage does not influence my opinion of the material I can see before me.

There ! Simple ! :)

The point rules but who is who (the source but can also be the context) has/have equally a role to play in your judgment in order to get a further (replay: ...further) best conclusion.

No.

A square is a square, if the Pope tells me it is a circle, it is still a square, if a scientist tells me it is a circle, it is still a square, if a geometrist and expert in circles tells me it is a circle, it is still . . . . . a square.

The facts usurp authority.

Inerrency is rare even amongst experts.

Appeals to authority often produce the worst conclusion.

The 5D2 footage in this test is terrible, telling me the Pope shot it himself on his personal Papal 5D2 does not alter the actual material itself, only the opinions of those who place authority above actuality.

No doubts on the second one. But about facts, where are they?

I will repeat and rephrase:

(...) in your judgment in order to get a further (once again, further) conclusion which any honest qualified interpreter wants as the best. It should be 'qualified', first. As well, the facts. Or won't apprehend the facts when they cannot be identified. Enough said.

By the way, the Pope's 5D2 has 24p/25p/30p/60p and 120p - films in raw to the CF card at 4k and has Tetris and 'Snake' in the games menu.
