5D replacement announcement next week

Haha but if you keep saying 'No offence', the heavy subtext is "No offence, but, I'm just opinionated and going to throw my weight around now"... so it's never a good idea to say 'No offence'!

Well, I guess you got that from it. When I said "no offense" I meant "you can't hear my tone online, so please don't take offense to what I'm typing because it's a good discussion."
Also that's twisting my words abit... I said a good story is a good story, all those in the Box Office are good stories (IMO) and as I stated, there's really only about 12 or so stories. Just not necessarily the best scripts as I mentioned with Star Wars, and I think is what you're trying to get at before all of that discussion on the other films mentioned above :P

I inferred, from one of your responses, that you thought Inception had a great story which equaled a great script. I got that wrong, my bad. Star Wars has a terrible story and a terrible script.

Transformers? Terrible story, great script, great execution. Inception? Same thing.

Buuuut yeah, to each their own. xD

oh Kholi.

xD I be's me, and that's all that I be's.

By the way, that was also me agreeing that Drive (the story of) was pretty blagh. The movie as a whole? Still can't stop recommending it to people who've somehow failed to take in the awesomeness that is.

Err Drive's story is just about a driver bonding with a neighbour, being her protector, and killing bad guys. How AWESOME and primal is that story!

Cool, cool. I get you for the most part, which is why I think you can handle a shot every now and then. ;)

To like Drive, you would have to see it before any hype, and be expecting the Notebook. But I think everyone can appreciate somethings about the film. When asked about it, I generally just sum it up as "A not so good film put together by some amazing talents in a short amount of time." And for Gosling admirers, their is a 5 minute music video homage paid to his gorgeousness for the opening credits.

Hmmm. It's 2012. Killing is no longer in fashion. (I hope, one day)

Haha, just watched this, my brother forwarded it to me:

Couldn't agree with you more, especially with the quotation. So many people disliked to the ending, but it resonated with me in a way that I've only experienced in video games or anime. And that's saying a lot.

It's definitely not for everyone, though, and I can see why a lot of people thought it was a bad and/or boring movie. Hell, I saw people walking out the day I watched it, but I only noticed because they walked right in front of me. >:[

Whilst, I love that you acknowledged Avatar and Drive had pretty much the same story... how can you not like that type of story? :'(

It so totally exemplifies story is KING (and MURDER AND GUTS TO GET THERE!). MORE BLOOOD!!!111

But seriously, I agree with Squig about story. If we can't articulate what the story is, it isn't a good film (or it's an arty one)

Haha Kholi are you doubling back on your words now and agree with me and Squig that story is actually king - and what you were debating was plot and script? :P

Where did I double back on my words? =X Show me, please.

Because I'm the first person to disagree with Story being King as far as feature films go.

Yeah but you don't actually know what story is...

I'm perfectly clear on what story is. xD And it definitely is not king when dealing with the industry cinema/movies (where money is involved).

If you feel differently, then cool! No sweat off my bbbback. Too each their own.

Noooooooooo! DPreview syndrome!!!!!!!

I dunno why people worry about pixels when story is what'll get your movie sold... and the audience doesnt' care! :X

Well this is more of a battle of semantics really, but I think it'd be incredibly helpful when describing stuff to layman's folk and for marketing and distribution purposes. I assure you, this is a lot of sweat on your back!

Just to be clear:
I see a bunch of top listers that have cliche and over-done stories, that were extremely well executed.

Avatar = every other story about "white man" coming to take over "colored man's" territory. There's nothing new about it, there's nothing fresh about it.. aside from the visual experience.

That's not Avatar's story.

Kholi said:
Inception's story makes no damned sense at all, from any perspective.
Inception's story is "A bunch of people jump in and out of each other's dreams in order to dupe the successor of a major coporation into changing his mind about how he runs the impending monopoly of energy trade."

That's not Inception's story.

You're throwing around the word story lightly! :P ALL good films have a story. Even if you don't like certain types of stories (ie: Avatar/Drive, Inception), it doesn't mean they're bad. That's just your opinion on a certain campfire story. That's cool.

An example of a bad story (and by bad, I mean no story and thus a bad film): A man has special powers and people loves him. <-- notice how there is no drama or drive and that it looks more like a statement. None of the Box Office films I listed have any story resembling statements!

No, it really is a debate of semantics. Most of these terms are so lost that they've become synonymous and/or interchangeable

When did I ever say they don't have a story. Please, copy, paste, quote me where I said that? Because, I'm pretty positive I didn't say that. lol. I said they're bad. Every movie has a story, that doesn't make it a good one, nor does box office success indicate that it was a good one.

That's an example of a poorly written premise to me.

. I assure you, this is a lot of sweat on your back!

:B And people think my posts are condescending or combative.

At the end of the day, one shall stand, one shall fall -- Optimus Prime

But what I mean to say is: believe in what you believe in. If you think a good story is what makes the most difference in a feature length motion picture, okay then. That's fine. I'm not stopping you from believing that.

Geez, Kholi you're hating on a lot of films here :P

Err well I liked The Devil Inside... anyway... (in an amusing kind of way, not that I'd champion it for any awards or anything). Solid premise/story, not so well executed film.
