$3,500 is a bit high for what is essentially a baby step forward from the Mark II - which sells new for $2,000 right now.

Other important features the camera must have (at least for me) - headphone jack and clean HDMI out. The later will almost certainly be a feature, but who knows about the headphone jack?

+1 on the clean HDMI. If Canon will put this on I will replace both my stills cameras with this camera. If not I will be dissapointed and might be looking towards Nikon.

Cool. It's about time. I can't imagine them upping the price. Prices usually stay the same, or drop a bit with every new version that offers more features. Of course it's predecessor was a big money maker. So they can ask for more, and people will pay it.

+1 for Clean HDMI out.

It'll be very interesting to see what the specs are for the new "5DM3" (or whatever Canon will call it)!

If Canon improves the video quality (tames the moire, and improves both the internal codec & HDMI out), and includes a headphone jack, I may upgrade from my GH2.

The 5DM3's FF DOF goodness will be a valuable "add", and something the inevitable "GH3" can't offer. But heck, if a GH3 (many months from now) proves better than the 5DM3 in certain respects (global shutter maybe?), a GH3 body will be relatively cheap ... whenever it finally arrives.

As for the 5DM3 price: I hope it sells in the US for less than $3K, but even at $3.5K I see it as a less-expensive, full-frame FS100 or AF100 competitor (almost), plus the 5DM3 will be able to take superb hi-res stills -- the latter being something the FS100/AF100 can't do.

If there's something we should have learned this past year is that specs on paper are utterly uninteresting. C300 is a good example.

I've had a day with one (C300) today and I am not sure I agree. It may be slightly over priced but the image and advantages are pretty clear the moment you pick up one that's been setup for the best results.

I agree with Kholi about the C300. I feel it's an excellent camera, just a bit over priced. ( of course overpriced is a matter of perspective, depending in which direction your coming )

I'll add also, that the build quality of the Canon C300 doesn't come across in pictures. When holding the C300, It's a very solid feeling camera in your hands. The side grip just alone feels very DSLR like too, and feels like it came from their photo division rather than their video division.

Pappas, I didn't feel that the C300's build quality was any better than Canon's normal build quality--which is excellent. I just didn't find anything surprisingly good about it. Also, I found the attachments for the LCD and the viewfinder to be really, really odd. It was like someone took an FS100 and an XF305 collided them in a cyclotron.

I was looking at Bloom's extreme low light test and the C300 still has the dodgy Canon chroma noise that the Sonys and Nikons don't have. You have to push the ISO much higher to see it than you do on the 5D however. From the samples I've seen 6400 looks like 1250 on a 5D.

It definitely feels solid to me in my hands. I felt this way about the Af100 though. For the price the Af100 is a well built camera. That's a good analogy ( FS100 and an XF305 collided them in a cyclotron ). It's a hybrid of a few things. It will be interesting to see what's next. I also wonder how they'll address ( even if they will ) the 5K zone ( Af100 - FS100 market ) type cameras. I love the DSLR design, however presently DSLR's can't take the place of a video camera in the traditional sense. If the C300 was in the 5K-ish zone; Canon would have made a substantial impact in that market. So it will be interesting to see that card played when they do. Just like the update to the AF100 when that happens. That will be an awesome camera, I'm sure. I hope that the 5DIII is a good jump in overall features/improvements, since it would be disappointing to see something less. We'll know soon enough.
