I was wonder if someone would off some help. I want to purchase a SLR do do video. I currently use the HMC-150 in 720-60p to shoot paintball films. 60p is a must for me for the slow-mow. I know 7d has the feature..but what about 5d? Also could some one explain :Full rame camera: and its advantages over the 7d??

Thanks so Much!

The 5D doesn't offer it, it only shoots at 30p. There's speculation that the forthcoming firmware update might add 60p, but until it arrives (sometime in the first half of this year) don't make any purchase decision based on speculation.

Full frame gives you access to wider angle lenses and shallower DOF, and the 5D enjoys about a 1-stop sensitivity advantage over the 7D.

5d only does 1080p - 30fps right now. not even the proper 29.97.

an update is apparently coming within the next 6months that will add a 24p option.

5D advantages -
better in lowlight
sharper image
lots of fast primes available
super shallow DOF

disadvantages -
super shallow DOF
current lack of frame rates
aliasing/moire
jello/rolling shutter issues

7d advantages -
lots of frame rates
decent in lowlight
cinematic DOF

disadvantages -
slightly lacking in resolution
no fast wide primes - can only use slow-ish zooms for wide angles
aliasing/moire - same as 5d in 1080p but much worse in 720p
jello/rolling shutter issues - same as 5d in 1080p but much better in 720p

7d is only worse in lowlight if the whole image is underexposed. The 5d is considerably better in that case, however both can achieve relatively noise-less imagery up to 1250 ISO if your shot has a wide range of luminance. The 5d is considerably sharper. The 7d and 5d have the same aliasing and moire. However, it is less visible when you turn down the sharpness setting in camera. While this is desirable on the 5d, it is less so on the 7d. Meaning, in order to get desirable sharpness the 7d has to be at a higher sharpness setting and thus demonstrates more aliasing and moire. Not tons more, but more.

I'd like to also add that the 7d 1.6 cropped sensor could also be an advantage for shooting telephoto shots. A 200mm lens "turns into" a 320mm. Especially if your footage is shot outdoors, you have plenty light to shoot.
