5D mkII Stop Motion

Hey guys,
I'm working on a project that calls for stop motion, and I have a few questions. I haven't really done a full-fledge stop motion video, beyond a few ten-second tests. Would really appreciate any feedback/advice/anecdotes!

1. About how many shooting hours/days would it take to shoot a 2 minute stop motion video with about 6 locations? (that's about 3,000 photos)
2. Any tips/advice on settings or techniques for the shoot?
3. Also, I've heard of programs/plug-ins for post— any pointers?
4. I assume 24 fps would result in the smoothest look? Any reason not to do 24?

THANKS SO MUCH,
Max

How long it takes depends on the subject, a flower opening may take 2 days to shoot.
Shoot in live preview mode but with hdmi cable in to disable lcd if on battery, but best to use ac adapter, you dont get aperture flicker in liveview, use long exposure to smooth out movement.
Shoot tethered so images are stored to HD
work out what storage space you need i.e. 3000 images x 10MB each= 30GB
Basic formula is for 2 min film 120 seconds x 24 = 2880 exposures now it depends on what is going on what gap you need between frames. I usually expose at 1/4 or 1/2 sec to get smooth movement if there are people involved

get vantage point where camera wont get moved

It really comes down to what you are shooting. For example if you are shooting something like this then it will depend on how quickly your artist works. I believe this took them about 3 months to shoot: (not my work)

The only way you'll be able to find out approximately how long it will take is to do a full test shoot with your artist/actor/clay-modeller/puppeteer. Maybe shoot a few seconds worth, then do the math.

As a time saver you could look into buying the most recent (canon enabled) version of iStopmotion that turns your laptop into a stopmotion capturing device
