Hello fellow dvx users!

I am currently equipped with a Canon 5D Mkii and am looking at buying a second camera to work in conjunction with it; shooting weddings, wildlife and music videos.

I am a bit out of the loop in regards to digital HD prosumer camera's like the Ex3, but I remember they were always a top choice when it came to HD digital filming.

I am also buying the X-22 Glidecam, so the camera would have to be suited for this rig; tried and tested with happy users.

My question is:

What camera do you suggest one buys in order to make a good combination with the 5D Mkii?

I think you need a video camera, long takes monitorable sound

'wildlife' - getting a long reach (lots of tele) with a larger chip is a struggle, and EX3 with a nikkor 80-200 is very long, not on a larger chip camera

with an AF100 the footy would cut better with with the 5 look wise

I guess Af100 (nice focal lenght cross over to multi use lenses) or if you are intent on a tele facility an Ex3 or whatever the latest thing like that is

Id say Af100

My pick would be a Canon XF100 or HMC150....unless you want to spend a lot more money. I think either cam could do what the 5d can't and vice versa.

I plan on a HD video camera - budget of about 8 - 10,000US

With that budget then, I'd suggest the Canon XF300/305. They look like excellent cameras (great codec, L series 18x lens, very high res 4" screen, very customizable camera overall) - Check out some of Cowpunk's tests and comments in the Canon forums. He's obviously pleased with the camera...might be worth a look comparing to the EX Sony's.

I recently tested an XF300 in combination with the 5D2 (as well as 7D and 60D). The footage from the XF300 looked awesome and was significantly sharper than the 5D2, even with good L glass mounted. In fact it was so sharp that I had to add 0.5 Gaussian Blur to the XF300 footage to bring is back down to the DSLR level. My only complaint is that at 6db and above the XF300 footage gets really noisy, and noisy in a way that was not that easy to remove. If you can shoot at 0db then the XF300 is AWESOME.
