5D MKII in Premiere

Hello there,

I'm working a project shooting 1080p/30p on the 5D MKII and I'm going to be editing in Premiere CS3. What is the best format option for the footage? Thanks!

Make some proxy files, and make sure they are .mov files and edit. Replace with your 5d files and boom you're good to go.

Sorry, I forgot to specify: I'm editing on a PC. I don't see any .mov options for format. Is there something I should get that will give me .mov editing capabilities in Premiere? Thanks again!

There's no point in trying to edit the native files on a PC. Premiere edits quicktime files natively but unlike Final Cut the 5d files out of the camera choke Premiere and playback is stuttery and annoying, that's why I convert them to lower res proxy files in stream clip or media encoder. This is the tutorial I used to get me going http://vimeo.com/2641870

I use Cineform NEO Scene and editing on my Quad Core PC is a breeze with the converted files. Plus, NEO Scene will convert to 10 bit, 4:2:2, and either 29.97 or 24p. It's worth the $120.

NeoScene does not do a proper 24p conversion. IMO, the results are too stuttery. But try it for yourself to see if it's acceptable to you.

That was my initial impression from others reviews. I don't even bother converting anymore, but I do like the 10 bit 4:2:2 conversion.

Just and FYI, I edited this video with native files and the Adobe Production Premium CS4.

It worked great for us!

Love that vid! You didn't have any stutter in playback? What are your machine specs if you don't mind.
