5d Mk3 or should I go with something else?

I spend most of my time on the HDSLR thread so that is why I'm coming here with this question.

I'm shooting a short film that I'm planning on only sending to the top 10 film festivals. It is a Zombie film but unlike most Zombie films this story line hasn't ever been done/told and has a good option to be a feature film or even a TV series to go up against 'The Walking Dead'. At least THAT is what I think LOL

It will be a five day film shoot (20 minute film) giving us four pages a day to film - Okay now here is the big question: I already have the 5d Mk3 but I have been offered to use the FS100 (free) or I can rent the FS700 or the Scarlet (not sure rental charges) or I can use the RED which rents for $1500 a week and that includes one cameraman to run the RED.

The story line is great, the talents are great and the locations are great so now I need that footage to be great. I need to really wow those big boys with this project and I don't want it to look like a cheap amateur film. Our budget is $10k for filming giving us $2k a day. We don't have a lot of cast in the film or tons of Zombies which is good. We do have a number of TB hard drives for storage.

So what camera would you go with?

I guess the primary question is do you have the post capabilities of dealing with RED? It will undoubtedly give you a superior image to the MarkIII or fs100 (from a purely technical standpoint), but the MarkIII is a capable camera as well. Why not use it in conjunction with the fs100? Use the fs100 for your detailed wides, the markIII simply doesn't resolve as much as the RED or fs100

Canon 5DIII shooting Raw?

I tried out the raw and yes it's kinda cool but come on. At the moment it's completely unusable in a realworld shooting environment, especially for days of material. Forget it. For REAL shooting you need a capable camera that disappears and let's you do your stuff. I'd suggest going with the Epic and lighting properly.

Any of the cameras you listed are capable of delivering good results, and will only be limited by the crew using them.

Good luck with your original and completely different zombie movie!

After thinking on this some more, I really do think your be best served working with your MarkIII and the fs100, as I doubt your red rental comes with additional batteries and the other support gear you should most likely be working with when using a RED in this capacity. 10k is not a small budget for a short , it's 10k more than most short films have. :) I'd invest that 1500 for the Red rental into boosting your lighting and grip kit. A well lit and dynamic scene with the fs100 will be better than a dully lit RED scene.

I can't wait to see what you guys create!
