5D mk 3 and Schneider ND filter test, IR pollution, far red? Need Help!

Hello All,

just got a set of Schneider 4x5.65 ND Filters in 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 to go with my new 5D mk III. All water white glass.
On the mkII I used to work with Heliopan Vari Nds, but as I also need grads sometimes I decided to go with fixed NDs in a mattebox now.

But I didn't expect this: starting already with the 0.6 there is a lot of red in the picture, making the filter unusable, at 1.2 hell breaks loose and at 1.8 I started crying.
I still had some old Heliopan screw-in NDs, a 0.6 and a 0.9, hidden somewhere, so I tested with those. Both were really good. Even stacked.

So where does this red come from?
Is this IR pollution? Is it far or near red?
And what could help?
A Tiffen T1 IR cut filter? A Hot Mirror? Sell the Schneiders again and get Schneider Platinum IRNDs or Tiffen IRNDs?

Please see the pictures yourself and also have a look at the vectorscope.
Everything was shot with Stu's settings and I only threw in a little saturation in AE, nothing else.

Did anyone of you see this before? I never had something like this on the 5D mkII, unfortunately I don't have one anymore to test against...

cheers,
Martin

Thanks Frank.
In the meantime I contacted Schneider Optics themselves (great service there), hearing that as the whole picture is tinted red, it's most likely not IR pollution, which occurs in the blacks and reds, but maybe defective filters...
I also tested with a second mk3 and also different lenses, but the problem persists.
Thanks for the tip on the Heliopan though, might come in handy soon enough!

Just for the record, you don't need additional IR cut off filters when using NDs with Canon DSLR cameras. Or with most digital cameras, for that matter.
