5D Mark II Mosaic Engineering filter worth it? Dec 2015

Hey, everybody, I'm having a little dilemma. There's a good deal on a Mosaic Engineering filter for my 5D Mark II and even though I've wanted to try the ML RAW workflow and get that nice RAW image out of my 5D Mark II, I'm kind of conflicted because of the rather inexpensive 4K cameras on the market right now. The Panasonic G7 looks particularly cool so I wonder if maybe that $200 or so should be put towards that than the 1080P-only 5D Mark II which I may just end up using for stills-only. I do a little bit of stock footage here and there as well so I'm also concerned that I might be losing out on sales with 1080P content even if it's RAW quality. What do you think?

Not that the 5d2 can't produce great footage and stills, it can. However it's rather long in the tooth. The g6 in my opinion was a better camera than the 5d2 (image wise, not build quality), and the g7 is miles ahead in image quality. Even the gh2 had a sharper image in 720p mode than the 5d2 1080. But if your after the super shallow dof the full frame sensor makes it easier to get. Also, you can pretty much adapt any canon lens to a m4/3rds body with the right adapter, You can always throw on a lens turbo to the front of the g7 and get a super 35mm field of view as well.

If I were you, I would sale the 5d2 and grab a g6 or g7, use that 200.00 you were going to buy the mosaic filter with, and get some nice Canon fd, Nikon, or pentax glass. It really is a nice image.
I still have a g6 for when I need a small light camera. They can be had for relatively cheap prices these days. Here's a link to some g6 footage.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRiKjjZ3yGk

Rockmore who is a forum member uses the g7, you might find some footage from him.

Thanks, that's what I was kind of feeling. I like the 5D Mark II but, yeah, it's been a while and 4K is now despite the 1080P RAW. :/

i persoanlly don't think that mosiacengenering filter is necessary for the 5DkII. i owned the 5DkII and never felt burnt by not having one. that camera is not perfect and there can be some moire but compared to something like the 70D its mild. the 70D for instance is absolutely horrible for moire and especially stair-stepping aliasing. i bought the mosaic filter for the 70D and its a DRAMATIC improvement. with that said...the 70D video is pretty soft. with the mosaic filter in you CAN sharpen in PP nicely where without the filter don't even try since it just exaggerates the killing aliasing.

not saying to buy or not to buy a 5DkII just giving my perspective on that mosaic filter that i bought for my lowly 70D. infact i bought it twice since i broke the first one i had when installing it with a bit too much pressure. be careful if you get one...they will break so be gentle.
